Merriam-Webster defines “statesman” as “one versed in the principles or art of government,” or “a wise, skillfull, and respected political leader.”

If the first name that pops into your head when you read that definition is noted racist, sexist, mafia-friendly birther Donald Trump, then you may want to take a trip down to Sarasota, Florida this August 26.

That’s when the Sarasota Republican Party is honoring Trump as its 2012 “Statesman of the Year.”

    Seriously.

The party plans to present Trump with the award just 24 hours before the Republican National Convention begins 60 miles up the road in Tampa.

“He’s a sage, skillful and respected leader” who is doing “all he can to take our country back,” Sarasota GOP Chair Joe Gruters told Talking Points Memo. “At the end of the day, he’s one of the few people in the country who can command respect from people of all walks of life.”

According to Trump’s spokesman, Michael Cohen, the “statesman” won’t use the award to overshadow the convention — because he’s still hoping be an active participant.

“It would seem obvious that Donald Trump will play a role in the Tampa convention, as his massive popularity, reflected in this recent award, shows what an asset he would be in making the convention into an even greater success,” Cohen told NBC.

It’s unclear how Cohen came to the conclusion that his boss is “massively popular.” After all, the last poll to bother checking showed that just 33 percent viewed Trump favorably, compared to 55 percent who viewed him unfavorably

GOTTA LOVE THE REPUBLICAN BLIND PARTISANSHIP !!

I would have gone with the headline

" Nothing says "respected leader" like babbling birther conspiracy theories."

It's a good tease. And it could have suggested any number of "respected leaders" in the GOP.

Donald Trump is hardly the biggest buffoon in the Republican Party. He is just one of many competing for the dishonor, then oblivion that awaits them.

Not particularly. I suspect most Republicans don't really take the buffoonish Donald Trump all that seriously, nor could they give a crap if he was named "Statesman of the Year" by some obscure group in Sarasota, FL. By the way, thread title STILL too long. "Concise & Precise will Suffice" --- any more than that can go in the body of your post.

    Fair enough !!!

Sad though that among the Republican party there are so many TBagger types that are willing to give him the spotlight and even sadder is that many a high ranking republican partisan aren't willing to call down Trump for his bullshit.

Oh well, whatever it takes to win !!!

Yes it is and this is why we point it out. It is also why we point out how much worse it has become through our politics being up for auction to the highest bidder. That money keeps such people as Trump and his propaganda out in front and soon believed over facts. Not my facts CJ, facts from reality that have been well researched, such as those realistic facts that point out Trumps Birtherism as total fantasy.

Donald Trump knows how to run a business, how to create jobs, how to make a profit, how to invest, HOW TO CREATE WEALTH.

When was the last time the Dummycrat party had a leader with those qualifications? Certainly not BO, certainly not Hillary, certainly not John Kerry or Biteme or Mondull, or BJ Clinton.

Donald Trump is a genius compared to Democrat Statists who only know how to live off the taxpayers and make big stupid government bigger and more stupid.

Sitting in the White House is a real buffoon whose policies have created misery from shore to shore, the longest period of high unemployment since the Great Depression, a buffoon who will have created $6 trillion in debt, a buffoon who is trying to destroy the healthcare system.

The real claim to being stupid belongs to crazy Libs who support the buffoon and his destruction. It's difficult to imagine how he could do a worse job. Donald Trump could turn this mess around in no time.

Anyone who pretends that the birth document released by the White House is not a forgery is a simpleton Obama zombie.

Donald Trump is a genius compared to Obama zombies, some of whom aren't qualified to shine Trump's shoes.
