If it is thrush then I would get the HIV test. That was one of my first symptoms when my body got overwhelmed by HIV related illnesses in 1995. I had thrush in 1980 after a bout of depression, so in 1995 I was not too worried. Silly me, I should have realized the night of soaking the bedsheets with sweat meant something more serious.

Stay off of rollercoasters and gargle a cap full of peroxide to 4 - 6 oz of water (or a saline solution) and you'll be fine. And stop kissing boys; they have cooties.

symptom of a hypochondriac maybe...and if you're seriously nervous that it may be "you know what" (I feel like I'm in a Harry Potter" movie), I'd stop having unprotected sex and get real; sex isn't worth dying over.

I always play safe...of course....and I have never been topped..yet... but i'm a hands-on, active kind of guy that always has cuts, scratches, bruises etc. I can't find anything about how that figures in to the stats on contracting HIV.

You know I too am a hands on guy. the skin on my hands is just about always compromised.

I don't get sore throats much, but when I had, never thought I had HIV.

I remember years ago awaking to wet sheets from sweating, and knew this could be a sign. So I got tested. No still -

Overactive immune system...damn never heard of that other than arthritis is supposed to be something like that....I did see soemthing on TV about a guy immune to AIDS.

The things you should look for is lethargy for any prolonged period or and/or lymph node pain

I have never thought anything about HIV when I had a sore throat. I just thought I had strep throat or something.

So I admit to not knowing as much as I should about this stuff.... but never knew about the sore throat thing?

I had my HIV testing very recently, so I know all is good... but last year I had a 3 month period with a very strange sore throat where I did lots of antibiotics and no fix, then a camera down my nose and all sorts of stuff that they finally said was probably a pulled vocal muscle (which I still think was the doctors way of saying "I have no clue").

But now glad I never read this post or I might have freaked a little. haha

Kinda worries me because I'm always getting sore throats ... but I've never had sex or anything.

A sore throat can have many causes including:

1. Common viruses, and even the viruses that cause mononucleosis (mono) and the flu, can cause a sore throat. Some viruses can also produce blisters in the mouth and throat ("aphthous stomatitis").

2. Breathing through the mouth can produce throat dryness and soreness.

3. Sinus drainage (post nasal drip) may cause a sore throat.

4. A sore throat can also be caused by bacteria. The two most common bacteria to cause a sore throat are Streptococcus (which causes strep throat) and Arcanobacterium haemolyticum. Arcanobacterium causes sore throats mainly in young adults and is sometimes associated with a fine red rash.

5. Sore throat appearing after treatment with antibiotics, chemotherapy, or other immune-compromising medications may be due to Candida, commonly known as "thrush."

6. A sore throat lasting for more than two weeks can be a sign of a serious illness, such as throat cancer or AIDS.
