A new Reuters Ipsos poll released today shows President Obama taking a 6 point lead over Romney.
Last month Obama held a much slimmer one point lead.

As folks get to know more about Romney - they like him less and less.

Mitt needs a coherent vision. He has none. His entire campaign consists of "I had a good business career" and pandering to the extreme right. Voters just don't know what he'd do as President. Terrible campaigner, if he doesn't pull it together Obama is going to fillet him in the debates.

To paraphrase former Gov. Ann Richards of Texas...

Poor Mittens. He can't help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth.

The Republicans had a golden opportunity this year, with the disastrous economy (largely their own fault) but they blew it with this nominee.
So far Mitt has been an empty suit -- he has no new ideas on how to fix the economy, and the more people learn about his personality the less they like him. And the whole outsourcing thing is not popular among working people.

Mitt's one and only message is "Obama Sucks" but he hasn't articulated any viable policy alternatives. More tax cuts for millionaires, Mitt? Really? icon_rolleyes.gif

Rasmussen is still shilling for Romney of course. All other pollsters (the reliable ones) think Romney is toast. Poor guy has no path to 270.

    Yup.
The opportunity was there for the Repubs this election.
It was a slim chance - because some 60% of Americans correctly blame Bush for the weak economy - but there was at least a chance there for the Repubs.

However the only way an opposing party can successfully deny a sitting president running for reelection from getting a second term - is by putting forward a strong and likable candidate.

The Repubs were able to beat Carter with Reagan in 1980.
The Dems were able to beat Bush Sr. with Clinton in 1992.

Reagan and Clinton were the best politicians of their era.

Willard Mitt Romney is no Reagan and no Clinton.

Willard Mitt Romney is a Repub version of John Kerry.
Stiff cold effete and innately unlikable.

As is clearly shown in the RCP list of current polls - the only two polls that have Romney in the lead are a poll done by the biased pro-right-wing "pollster" Rasmussen and a poll done by the right-wing rag The Washington Times.

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_romney_vs_obama-1171.html

Both polls should be thrown out because they're done by partisan faux pollsters who have a long track record of producing poll numbers that have been found to be biased and inaccurate.

The voters are well aware of Romney's very liberal record as governor of Massachusetts.
And, they're finding his "conservative" act hard to swallow.

I think we will only truly know once the results of the election are in if Romney proves a "terrible campaigner" or a brilliant one. I tend to think he is a very smart man, and that he is saving his heavy firepower and the laying out of his plan and how he will govern until the convention, and later around the debates when Americans are actually tuned in and paying attention. Timing is everything. Whether that will be enough to actually win is another story. I don't think any of the experts are denying that Romney is, at the very least, within striking distance of victory. Clearly, this election could go either way.
