The ice cream truck in my area finally got new music after all these years! Ever since I was a kid, I swear all that dude played was "The Entertainer" and "Turkey in the Straw". Now it's "La Cucaracha" icon_lol.gif

Arghg I hate that. When I lived in town, if I ever actually took a day off and tried to stay home, that fucker would park right in front of my apartment with those damned speakers turned all the way up and sit there for an hour. I called the cops on him a couple of times.

God I haven't heard an ice cream truck since I was a kid playing in my Grandma's yard. But yeah, we always ran for that thing.

That, and the she would always get Eskimo Pies from the milkman when I was staying with her.

I loved it as a kid, but now I find that the sound (let's not even call it music) shatters the serenity of an otherwise peaceful summer afternoon. However, today's kids need fond memories of summer too, so I try to take the interruption in good spirits.

Oh, and no, I don't buy anything off of an ice cream truck...not since I was a child. I'm not even tempted.

Hehe, when I lived in San Antonio, the ice cream lady who came by almost every day sold paletas, which are Mexican ice pops of various flavors. I loved the lime and nut ones icon_biggrin.gif

Haha! Paletas have two bases: milky and fruity. The nut kind would fall under milky because it definitely had more of a creamy consistency to it. I couldn't quite tell what nut it was. Not distinct enough to be almond or cashew, so it could've been walnut, pecan, or who knows what else. The lime would obviously be the fruit juice kind.

I miss those greatly! Obviously no ice cream truck here carries them. I have no choice but to schlep to a Latin food store to get them icon_cry.gif

When I was a kid the ice cream truck that came through my neighborhood was like a mini ice cream parlor on wheels. You could get shakes, malts, sundaes, banana splits, or just soft serve in a cup or cone - all made to order. Todays ice cream trucks pale in comparison and the music is creepy. I can still hum the ice cream truck song of my youth.

I'm kind of a snob about what they're driving. if it's this kind of ice cream guy I get all nostalgic and remember running screaming through the house to my mom asking permission to flag him down:

but if it's this kind, which came down my street a few days ago, I just shake my head in disappointment and wonder what the world has come to:

It was the Good Humor man and he had bells above his windshield. He pulled a cord, and they rang. You could hear them for blocks. YUM!

i hate that song. mainly because the kids in my neighborhood growing up were very spoiled and the ice cream man knew that, so that song was basically all you heard outside all summer. it was insufferable!
