Any unhealthy foods you DO NOT miss?

It was hard to get healthy at first, but as time went on staying on track got easier. There are even some things that I don't even want now, even when I give myself a cheat meal.

Sausage
Hot Dog
Bacon

And other forms of processed meat are now disgusting to me--and I used to love sausage/bacon with syrup. Any foods that you don't even crave/want anymore?

That's great to hear. I don't crave those foods anymore. It's great to let go of hotdogs and all that processed meat. They are linked to cancer and not very nutritious for you.

Although I must say that I do love a pepperoni pizza but I only do that like 6x a year. I don't crave it all that much except in the winter. Perhaps it's too warm and humid in the summer for such dense foods.

I haven't had a hot dog in about 14 years. I did try the soy versions and they were good. Back then I was glad to use a healthy substitute but now with all the latest information about soy based products I avoid them altogether. But I don't crave it any longer either which is a good thing.

I may tend to crave cake but that only happens when I start to run low on calories by eating my healthy foods at the specified time intervals I've created for myself.

I love eating fruit and vegetables. I do it a couple times a week. It's like a 'semi' sacred ritual for me. I'm very glad I don't like pop tarts or hot dogs or bacon. I was never really a big fan of it anyway. However, since I've studied nutrition I take pride and joy in eating well.

Okay, one last thing I do crave now and then is sweet and sour breaded and fried Asian chicken or just about anything done Tempura style. But I eat these items less than once a month. I'll never be perfect nor do I want to be.

I know Mountain Dew isn't a food, but from high school until I was 21, I drank in the morning a six-pack of Mountain Dew everyday by lunchtime. Not missing the hyperness or the caffeine headaches.

Welsh rarebit on Wonder Bread toast. UGH!

And Taco Bell...to think I ate that crap at least once a week when I was a freshman.

That's funny. The difference between Mountain Dew and Colas is that Colas naturally have caffeine where as with Mountain Dew they had to add it and it wound up having twice the caffeine as colas do naturally.

Sweets altogether. I never really had much of a sweet tooth, so one day I just said no more white sugar (or any other kind except naturally-occurring sugars in fruit).

And I've never missed them. I get my sweets satisfied by my daily--and this must be the gayest name ever for an apple--Pink Lady.

The things I don't miss are mostly the things I never liked in the first place, like soda and hot dogs.

But there are a ton of things I do miss. Chocolate, sausage, nuts, cheese, kettle cooked chips, beer. Hmm, I'm getting hungry.

OK, confession time. I still eat all of those things, but in far more moderation than in the past.

What's a Pink Lady? You're saying it's an apple? I guess you could say that you get your apple in a day.

After literally crying that I couldn't have them, I got over Oreos. I used to really love Oreos, now, after eating better foods (including the organic cookies by Newman's Own) I don't like them so much. The things we think we'll miss when we go on a diet that's better for us. Go fig.

When I first got into bodybuilding, I would crave pizza and burgers. Virtually every weekend, I would indulge one meal and have pizza or a burger.

But now, not so much. My eating has become so clean, the grease from pizza or burgers actually makes me sick.

I will still try a slice from time to time, but it is no longer something I crave.

Now donuts... we can still talk about DONUTS!

I don't crave Coca Cola anymore. It used to be that whenever I was thirsty, the mere sight of something red would set the idea of a nice, cold can of Coke in my head. Now I just don't want it anymore.

Fast food & candy bars. I still love burgers, fries, sweets, etc. but if i'm gonna indulge myself with all the bad stuff associated with those foods I want it to be quality junk food. A burger & fries at Red Robin instead of a drive thru. Chocolate covered peanut butter candy from Bellbrook Chocolates instead of Reese's cups, etc.

Forgot to add that I liked but was never crazy about soda/pop, so it's not something I even want anymore.

Glad you brought that up about feeling sick. Now after cheating on Saturday night, I feel kind of hung over on Sunday morning. My mom eats healthy like I do and cheats on Saturday as well, and she feels sick as well, especially after a lot of sugar.

And if you think about it, it's kind of like drinking and being hung over. Hang overs are caused by impurities, right? So if you eat clean and then cheat, the grease, salt, sugar, etc., are impurities, so you feel sick afterwards. Back when we used to eat whatever we wanted, we had built up a "tolerance" to all that garbage, so like people who drink all the time, we could eat all that stuff and not feel it.

It's more likely that your intestinal bacteria are having a population shift when you suddenly alter your diet. The same thing happens when you visit someplace, say San Diego, with lots of sulfate in the water, for example.

I guess I'm lucky that the vast majority of that stuff doesn't tempt me. My biggest challenge is spending the whole day somewhere (like boyfriend's family's house) that bringing your own food might seem rude. I eating stuff I never would just because I'm hungry! I'm starting to get more confident in saying

Some stuff I could easily survive if I never ate again:

Potato chips
Store-bought cookies
Entenmann's anything
American cheese
Any fast food
Any soda

My weaknesses are mainly dairy related... ice cream being the biggest culprit.

Fast food other than french fries

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good hamburger as much as the next guy, but when I decided to start eating healthier, I decided that if I was going to have a hamburger or whatnot, I'd have a real hamburger either from my grill or a sit down restaurant. Now it's distressing if I find myself hungry in an airport without the time to grab something other than at a fast food place--I just find the fast food burgers and chicken unappetizing these days, though I didn't use to.

I'll still eat fast food fries, though. I prefer that style of french fry over the really think "steak fries" most real restaurants serve.

Though I still like some chicken salads and wraps at various places, I just generally don't trust the people who prepare my food at places with a "value menu"

I'll throw my vote in for fast food as well, I used to love a quarter pounder and fries.

One thing I'd love to have on the list is bread, but I'm having a hard time cutting it out of my diet completely. Although I stopped using butter, now I spray it with just a little organic olive oil spray and put it into my panini press. I find that making just two pieces, one for me and one for my partner also helps cut down on my intake, instead of cutting up a whole loaf of bread and serving it at the table.

I will say I miss bacon and butter the most, not necessarily together, unless there was a waffle and syrup involved.

I also just gave up ice cream (or at least having it in the house). Surprisingly I'm not really missing it.

I freeze berries and grapes now and mix them up with yogurt and granola. Much better, and much more filling than ice cream.

Anything deep fried. I allow myself KFC once a year, but I'm so good I probably don't eat it even that often. I had a big batch of fries yesterday. It's funny that here in the cafeteria at UCLA's School of Public Health, their portions are out of control. A "small" fries is totally ginormous. I was going to ask for half a small order, but I was weak. I decided I was only going to eat half, then offer the rest up to my coworkers. But, again, I was weak. I couldn't stop and ate almost 75% of the container before I gave them up. Why does fried food have to taste and smell so damn good?

Fried stuff, mostly.

But I tell you what. I eat well and workout daily and I really love the results...

But I'm not willing to give up a kind of food carte blanche. Like today for lunch I splurged on getting Indian food-- don't eat it that often but if I have another salad I'll lose my shit.

So, while I don't miss fried food, or other unhealthy foods, that much, I think cutting it out to never so that you don't experience the joy of eating good food, regardless of the calorie content, is cutting out part of the joy of life.

One of the nice things about living in a very small town is that there is no fast food here. I don't keep pop (soda) in the house and I don't really miss it either. I do miss Burger King every once in a while, then the feeling goes away.
And what jprichva said about pink lady apples is totally true. They are soooo good, as are braeburns.

I hear that. That stuff is gross. I'd have to say the thing I don't miss are donuts. Way too much sugar and that's supposed to count as my breakfast?! No thanks.

There's two awful foods that i can't live without at least from time-to-time and that's French Fries and Pizza. Sweet mother of God they're good.

Not to mention I'm constantly thirsty, and drink about 2 gallons of water a day to quench this. I piss at least 10 times a day. (Oi Vey!)
