It's not good for you. It isn't terrible for you but, you're better off eating whole grain rice.

Settle down, it's a show.
I also really love white rice, and I eat it all the time, but I know it's not the best.

White rice is a simple carb. Your insulin levels will spike after eating it. Like white bread, white rice is stripped from many nutrients when it is "bleached."

On white rice...

The milling and polishing processes both remove important nutrients. A diet based on unenriched white rice leaves people vulnerable to the neurological disease beriberi, due to a deficiency of thiamine (vitamin B1). White rice is often enriched with some of the nutrients stripped from it during its processing.[1] Enrichment of white rice with B1, B3, and iron is required by law in the United States,[2][3] although these nutrients are only a small portion of what has been removed.[citation needed]
At various times, starting in the 19th century, brown rice and wild rice have been advocated as healthier alternatives.[4] The bran in brown rice contains significant dietary fiber and the germ contains many vitamins and minerals. (See whole grain.)

This is why I'm glad Chipotle now offers brown rice.

Rice is not bleached. It is not like flour. This is a monomer. The hull is simply milled and ground away from the actual rice grain and then it is polished.

For flour, these are the actual chemicals used for bleaching: (according to wikipedia.com).

# benzoyl peroxide (FYI: Used in zit cream)
# Calcium peroxide
# Nitrogen dioxide (A toxic gas)
# Chlorine (Used in swimming pools and clothes bleach)
# Chlorine dioxide (Disinfectant)
# Azodicarbonamide
# Atmospheric oxygen, used during natural aging of flour

Soooo is white rice "bad for you" or is it "not particularly beneficial"?

Sounds like people are meaning that it's just empty carbs.

I'm glad we've banned bleached flour here!

It´s better than brown as it has had the antinutrients removed from it which means that it doesn´t attack your gut lining. However, eating large amounts a lot is just like eating plates of candy for what it does to ur blood sugar

If you're going to eat white rice, I suggest basmati white rice or for the lowest glycemic index of all rices, try parboiled white rice. The lower a glycemic index rating a food has the less likely it will spike your insulin levels. I will eventually find out why parboiled rice has a lower glycemic index rating but at this point I don't know for certain. I'll have to look it up.

Most plant based foods have phytic acid which is what people call the anti-nutrient. It does not attack the gut lining like Gonzo said. But it does binds to the actual nutrients in the food. For example, phytic acid binds to magnesium, zinc, calcium, and iron. So, according to the latest research people who consume grains can become deficient in these minerals. Phytic acid is found mostly in the hull of a rice grain. This is why when it is removed (which creates white rice) in theory it will be better for you.

Interestingly, phytic acid is actually an antioxidant and in theory it helps to fight certain cancers. So in a way, it's good for you. BUT it can create the mineral deficiencies mentioned in the previous paragraph. Animals like cows, goats, deer, sheep, giraffes and many others have four chambered stomachs and due to this very complex digestive system can eat all the grains they are fed and the phytic acid gets broken down. They care called ruminants for their four chambered stomachs. Hence, they do not suffer malnutrition like humans do for eating grains. So it's not actually bad for us or a toxin, we simply lack the capacity to fully digest the foods with phytic acid like other animal species can.

^Thanks for the science.

So it wouldn't be bad to eat a big pile of white rice on its own, since there are no other nutrients for the phytic acid to bind to and deny your body. Well it would be bad in terms of shug.
So if you eat a cup of rice, how much insulin does that compare to with something sweet, like Smarties? 5 Smarties? 1? 10? In case it matters, let's go with blue because they are the best colour.

White rice is not bad for you. It has all the nutrients and it tastes better than that sawdust known as brown rice.

White rice still has nutrition. The nutrition is not only in the hull of brown rice. The hull does have the fiber, however. This is why people can become constipated by eating white rice. Just to be sure to get enough overall fiber and drink plenty of water.

Refer to this short online article about parboiled white rice. It will provide you with some information on how nutritious it is:
