London 2012: Australian Olympic Officials Forbid Married Couple From Rooming Together But Allow Gay Couples

Are these dorm facilities that are designated for same sex? With all-male floors or buildings, and all-female floors or buildings, like in some colleges?

If so, then any opposite-sex person, including a legal wife (or husband) could be prohibited from being together. Whereas same-sex gay or lesbian couples would not be. In fact, gay males might have no other place BUT the male dorms in which to reside. In which case they might as well bunk in the same room as their partner.

This could merely be an issue of lodging segregation by gender, and have nothing at all to do with straight versus gay couples. If that's the case, this athlete should be disciplined for slandering the Olympic officials with misleading claims.

"The stupid part of this, which I have argued to them, is that there are tons of gay couples on the Olympic team who will be rooming together so we are being discriminated against because we are heterosexual."

    icon_rolleyes.gif

Gay people have that kind of power? No. Gay people don't have equal rights in Australia. icon_rolleyes.gif so why would Australia make a rule only for straight people to follow if gay people can't even get married? if gay couples are allowed then I'm sure straight couples are allowed.

not sure why they can't room together... but he seems to even have admitted the real reasons why:

"Earlier this month the double trap champion raised the ire of Olympic chiefs when he said he would not abide to their decision to ban athletes using sedatives such as Temazapan, that he has used during competition for years.

Lauryn has also courted controversy by posing with her gun in men's magazine, Zoo Weekly. The covershoot is released today.

While it is still not known why the couple will be prevented from rooming together, Russell is adamant they've angered somebody.

"They are p---ed with my stance on sleeping tablets, and what p---ed them more than anything else is the photo shoot which is released tomorrow."

I am very dubious about this story.

"The stupid part of this, which I have argued to them, is that there are tons of gay couples on the Olympic team who will be rooming together so we are being discriminated against because we are heterosexual."

"Tons of gay couples" ? Sounds like hyperbole, which, to my mind, makes the veracity of his entire claim somewhat doubtful.

Just how many couples can there be on an Olympic team (i.e. competitors and officials)? Not many, I suspect, and (statistically) even fewer that are gay.

Protest planned over anti-gay Olympic states
"A protest is being planned outside an International Olympic Committee meeting this weekend to petition it to disqualify states which discriminate against citizens on the grounds of sexual orientation in sport."

Lots and lots of lesbians, eh? And many of them in sports typically associated with lesbians on top of that! icon_lol.gif

A little sad to see such few gay men.

Oh well, it's still great to see these athletes out, happy, and ready to give it their all at the games!

Just goes to show the lesbians have never had the battle for acceptance, and the right to be out, as us Bona Fide Homosexuals have. Make me hold my head hight that I was out before the age of 10 in the Aussie bush, in the 1960s, when grown men did not have the balls to do what I did.

Now women and even more so lesbians have men free zones and organisations, for us gay men. Bona Fide Homosexuals is a representative of men only. Homosexual men who have never done the nasty with a women; ever. So if the girls want an equivalent let them start one up; but this is for us guys.

Well lesbians also get many banners to stand under unlike us homosexual men, and if you are so smart you know what one meant. But it's true lesbians have never had the struggle us Bona Fide Homosexuals have had; we did all the ground work, and they received the benefits. I mean to say if it had of been left up to the lesbians to liberate us, we may be still up in the trees.. But then we have never really been one community either, now have we.

Breaking – First Out LGBT Olympic Athlete To Medal Wins Silver

    http://thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/breaking-first-lgbt-athlete-to-medal-wins-silver/sports-2/2012/08/01/45433

"Veteran Road Cyclist Judith Arndt representing Germany, became the first out and proud gay athlete to medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Judith won the silver in Women’s Cycling Time Trials, finishing with a time of 37:50:29 less than 15 seconds behind American Kristin Armstrong who took the gold. Olga Zabelinskaya from the Russian Federation won the bronze.

This is the third Olympic medal for Judith Arndt, who, as a 20-year-old, won silver for the 3000 Meter Pursuit at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. She also won a bronze in Road Race at the Athens Olympics in 2004."

    Are Gay Olympians Better Athletes?

"After taking a look at the medals awarded to the handful of out athletes throughout history, it looks like the answer is "yes." As it turns out, over half of all gay Olympians have won medals, far surpassing the medal ratios of the unfortunate non-gays. "
