Attention all guys in the Bowling Green/Glasgow area (of Kentucky):

I was actually just in your neck of the woods not too long ago. I interviewed for a job at the Sumitomo plant in Edmonton yesterday, and if they make an offer, I may be relocating to your neck of the woods.... most likely Bowling Green or Glasgow. I realize that what I may say next is perhaps a big display of my own ignorance... but as a politically liberal gay man with Jewish ancestry, I'm worried about whether or not Kentucky is going to be right for me. It's silly, perhaps, but I think what I am asking is for some kind of reassurance that I don't need to be afraid because it seems as though everything I find on the net about the area concerning gay life out there pertains to records of hate crimes and injustices.

Anyway... please take anything I said that seemed unsavory with a grain of salt, I'm a little frazzled, tired, and lost.

    Thanks,
    Adam

You will probably find a decent variance between Glasgow and Bowling Green, with Bowling Green being somewhat more liberal due to Western Kentucky University. Louisville and Lexington are very liberal within the context of the state, the later having elected a gay mayor last year. That said Bowling Green is substantially smaller, more rural and typical conservative. They did give us Cage the Elephant however.

The good thing about Bowling Green is you're only 60 minutes from downtown Nashville and 90 minutes from downtown Louisville.

I'd rather be broke and homeless in a gay-friendly location than live anywhere in Kentucky.
Being openly gay there will get you killed, and noone will seem to know what happened.
