How can the gay community expect to be respected

How can those in the gay community expect to be respected for their differences, when many don't even respect the diversity within their own gay community? It just dumbfounds me that adults behave as though it's okay to be so blatantly (and sometimes covertly) disrespectful to those that are different from them. This is of course not toward everyone in the gay community, but those that expect the same respect they are not willing to give.

    Newsflash people:

Gay men are not one collective organization that operates on one thought process or hive mind.

How can you expect anyone to take you seriously when you think of stupid ideas like this?

I realize it is not a community issue so much as it is an individual issue. There are angry people in this world that harbor many resentments. The internet is where they let their frustrations out that they would otherwise be shunned for by society. I've done it; perhaps you have done it also. The truth is in the end it hurts nobody but yourself. So, my new motto is: just let it be (or was that The Beatles). Any hoots... You can live at peace within yourself even in this crazy world we live in. Lately, I find I am just grateful for the day I have and the wonderful friends who support me 24/7. I owe a great deal to those people and though I may not always be deserving, I try to show kindness to the next guy for it.

How can the straight community expect to be respected when many don't even respect the diversity within their own straight community?

See how stupid that question sounds?

I think I was pretty clear in my post when I said that this is not toward everyone in the gay community so I obviously know there is no singular thought process on this. What I am referring to is that I see it so much more in the gay community, and some people think it's perfectly okay to the point that they want others to shut up about it because they and the world "simply won't change."

The point is the gay community has so many obvious information related to sex, alcohol, and drugs, or drama. The nice topics either not cover or in a minute amount compare to the good one. For example: most of the gay drama so far are about sex, sex, and naked bodies.

Isn't that why so many people consider the gay people fun? So dramatic and so dirty with no shame lol.

I agree with you there and normally go through life the way you do, but sometimes it just boggles my mind to see other people treated a certain way. I mean, regardless of how superior some of us in the community think you are, if you are gay, then you are a MINORITY (regardless of what you look like), so why condemn others that are even more of a minority than you are? Why do we treat bisexuals/drag queens/fems/other races/handicapped etc even less? Is it because some people need a reason to feel superior, as though they are the majority anytime they are not?

QFT*^& The OP should really focus on doing what he thinks others should be doing, and not make himself different from those whom make themselves out to be different to feel better about their selves.

Who says I'm not doing this? As I said in my original post, you would see that I said that this does not apply to everyone in the community. I just sometimes get baffled when I see this over & over in the community. By your response, if you see some injustice, are you saying everyone should basically just look away and just continue doing what others should be doing? C'mon now...

I'm saying, by making your statement, you become just as those who you speak of; instead of DOING something about, and not everyone thinks the same. Get used to that... as for the ones who do, don't expect all them to fall into line with you cause of one post, or one grandiose idea. Why prove how much that means to you IRL, and then you won't have to parade it around so much in your personal life?

I hear you; I do actually do things in real life about it- but why can't I talk about it too on a forum online? Venting because it gets disappointing to see this time and time again.

I know. It is not fun watching someone get picked on rather than just politely mentioning where they are in disagreement. I don't think this is a minority issue, that is simply taking things personally. Your feelings are valid of course, they are just running a bit to far below the surface. People don't look into you that far when arguing online. People don't look that far even when in person. Stand up for people if you feel strong enough to back up what you see, or do like I do and don't respond at all if it clearly makes no sense to. Best of luck and hang in there.icon_cool.gif

I'm not saying you can't... just pushing to see if you're a troll, or a real person. Your level headedness is appreciated, and stay true to what you believe.

Waiiit... so, I'm just like every other gay... Get the fuck out.
    Get.
    The fuck.
    Out.

The only thing I have in common with most of the community is that I tend to just like the same gender only...
