hey guys. I need some advice on something. Okay, so this morning I went down to the club I workout at twice a week with a trainer. He's been helping me condition myself for some races I'm doing in August, such as tough mudder. Anyways, he had set up an indoor obstacle course (with the mini-hurdles, the ladder, the kettlebells etc) as we've been doing the last couple weeks. I went through it twice, no problem, but on the third time through... I had to crawl under two full-sized hurdles and then jump on a bosu and then jump off and land (I did this perfectly fine on the first two times through). Anyway, this time... I jumped on top of the bosu no problem, but when I jumped off of the bosu, my right foot/ ankle twisted, gave way (I pronate - put more weight on the right foot than the left) and I went down like a ton of bricks. The trainer ran over to me, and got me to sit up against the wall... I was seing stars at this point and elevate my right foot. My ankle was in shear agony. He examined it, got me to move left and right point forward and back etc. He said it looked fine aside from my inability to point my toes forward.

Anyways, after about 20 minutes, I tried to get up (I felt fine, but I was still seeing some stars at this point). I tried to walk but my right ankle twisted again and this time I heard a crunch, I screamed out in agony and fell to the mats again. I was sitting down for 30 minutes this time with my ankle elevated. My trainer put a cold compress againt my neck and my ankle for about half an hour until I regained my colour again, and then I finally got the energy to go home.

I am home now, have my foot elevated and am icing it like crazy. Hoping to get some physio tomorrow for it. I am figuring, seeing the stars was probably from exhaustion... I had a cold the last week and my doctor told me yesterday, it was actually the early stages of bronchitis. Yes, I know I am stupid for working out during this, but I had been off for a week and I needed to burn some stress. I'm concerned now I won't be able to do tough mudder or any of the races I signed up for in August. I am just wondering if anybody has had a really bad injury like this, how long it kept you off exercise for, what you did to ease the strain, and what kind of exercise (if any) you did during the recovery period.

Sorry this post is so long, but I really need some advice here! Thanks! icon_smile.gif

Get to a doctor! It needs to be xray'ed, you may have fractured a small bone. If you twisted it, you will need to use crutches and wrap your ankle

foot/ankle injures absolutely suck. I injured "something" on the outer side of my foot by twisting it strangely while taking the dogs for a walk of all things and it hurt like a mother for a full two weeks. interestingly what made it better was getting insoles for my shoes as it seemed like wearing old tennis shoes seemed to re-injure the foot when it was starting to feel better.

hope it heals soon. consider some ibuprofen...

Probably it´s a sprain, keep applying ice for 20 minutes at a time every 3-4 hours, rest it, keep it elevated and compressed, until you see your doctor.

Hey just be glad you didn't rupture your achilles tendon! I did that and had to have surgery and haven't been out of commission for nearly 4 months. I'm just now finally starting to get back to the gym though I am still limping.

    Ankle/foot injuries do indeed suck...

I definitely feel for you, man! While I've never broken a bone, I did tear an ankle ligament when I was a competitive gymnast in my younger years. Was in a cast for over a month, and you sure do appreciate your health and mobility alot more when you find you can't get around normally. I guess you won't be able to do a whole lot in leg exercises, but at least you can still work out your upper body. I hope you have a speedy recover...hang in there and come back stronger for future tough mudders icon_smile.gif
