I went on a road trip up the sierras and up to tahoe lake. Saw a lot of ruggedly handsome guys with their boats and rafts filling up gas on the way. I was thinking my Dad use to love fishing but when I was on the boat I was just thinking where is the next landing so I can pee rather than go over the boat. I remember going ocean fishing off a boat out of San Pedro. At 12 years old I was with an older neighbor who didn't help me bait up or anything. Well I caught a nurse shark. I had to bring it up myself and then I was told by a bystander that I had to stomp on its head to kill it and then throw it overboard so it doesn't eat the good fish. WTF? I was mortified but did it anyway. I think this turned me off to fishing. I can't kill things. What is the thrill you get from fishing? I can do it but sort of bores me. I'd rather be water skiing or wind sailing or scuba diving.
