But I don't know what ""tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals"." means.

I've tried listening to songs on youtube that have Dubstep in the title and I can't figure out the common link.

I tried a few more videos. It just sounds like dance music to me. I also don't know the difference between House and Trance and whatever other prescribed gay man music there is.

I just don't know how someone can hear a song and say "This is dubstep".

Like what happened to it's older cousin DnB, the genre gets wider and covers more. These have all been called dubstep and each could probably fall under a different genre.

    OMG different genres of dubstep!

The only thing they have in common to my ears is that I don't enjoy it.

Skrillex makes some killer remixs with dubstep. It is nice background noise while driving in the rain, like resident evil weird.icon_cool.gif

For me, and "altered state of consciousness" means being sober.

Dubstep gets a lot of haters but not really sure why. I guess you either get it or you don't. I like this song and I can watch this dude dance for hours!

dubstep is pretty distinctive. It's often mixed with house but I don't really think it's considered a sub-genre of house because it's just so odd.. it sounds very mechanical in a jarring way, is very hard to dance to, and is often compared to the noise robots make when having sex.

house is even more broad, with lots of sub genres like progressive, electro (my personal fave), diva, etc. good, recognizable examples of house: avicii (electro), swedish house mafia (progressive), laidback luke (electro), armin van buuren (progressive + trance), tiesto (progressive mainly but has taken a trance turn)

trance is basically a kind of house that is more subdued and hypnotic.

Many dubstep fans would call Skrillex just a pop culture sellout icon_wink.gif

Another type of electronic music mixed with vocals and a dash of metal at least to me. I can take some of it but mostly it just makes me want to change the station.

Dubstep is why I generally avoid Euro car meets..... it is very popular in the Euro scene.
