For those of you who may be interested in meeting other Christians who happen to be gay (and celebrate the fact!), please take a look at the following information at: http://www.gaychristian.net/conference

The Phoenix, AZ, Gay Christian Network conference is in January 2013, and early registration fee is only $99 until 8/7.

You'll get to fellowship with a lot of really cool guys from all over the country who love Jesus. Maybe I'll see you there! icon_biggrin.gif

I would like to go one year, but Phoenix is too far away. I think they do very good work.

I agree with that, i'm sure the pay is more about the conference expenses like rooms and such vs paying to be a good Christian. The eye roll was because there is a TON of shade thrown to Christians on this site and in the LGBT in general...

I have been on the GCN network for a couple years excellent organization. Good resources and some answers on, faith, and being gay. Highly recommend it if you are looking for some answers check out the resources link. Just because your gay doesn't mean you have to throw your faith away. I changed my self image from religious to a spiritual man, no one can live under religious opinions of who we should be. Funny thought but who has ever seen GOD and lived to tell about it. Religious people forget to pull the beam out of their own eye, or put a knife to your throats if u are given to gluttony. Val

Gmack: Thanks for the info Terra!
jockfever: Agree. Every time Christianity breaks out on RJ, it's a blessing.

Gym_bull: Yea! IT"S ONLY $99 TO SUPPORT JESUS! Come on don't you want to go to heaven guys? Be good and pay. I dunno i just find it weird that you need to pay to be a good Christian.
jockfever: Here's an idea: Arrange a three-day conference at a Hilton Hotel -- with speakers, workshops, T-shirts, etc. -- which has no registration fee. Show us how it's done. If someone can't afford the $99, there are "scholarships" available.

Probably the most ridiculous thing I have read on RJ so far.

When a secular conference offers free hotel, attendance, and booze then you can mock a $99 Jesus meet.

I think we're looking at the hypocrisy of the concept.

Not trying to sound like a db, I don't think I understand where the hypocrisy comes in. Honestly. As with any conference, EVEN rich dad poor dad, there are costs that need to be incurred. That just covers it. I'm sure that the organizers want it to be free, but with the world that we live in, everything costs something...

So why do modern Christians need one? The Christians in Rome used a colosseum for their conventions.
I was physically assaulted everyday by people who defined themselves as "Christians" for six years out of my life and it wasn't even for being gay, but for being a free thinker. That's almost 33% of the shitty existence I've had on this planet. I have every right to "throw shade" at them if you can even call it that, because I'm REALLY holding back right now.

So far the only thing I think is decent about this entire conference is that it's for members of the LGBT community trying to identify as Christian and even then I disagree with it.
I'm sorry for how you were treated. That was not right. Those people obviously didn't know how to truly love others as themselves as Jesus taught and probably weren't secure in their own faith. I'm so sorry that happened to you bud.

    Not sure if serious....

So you mean after the phase of being fed to lions Christians used the location as a convention hall?

I know Christianity was eventually declared the official religion but during that time I believe the idea of free public use of buildings to gather was the only reason Christians didn't have to pay an entry fee. I would welcome being proven wrong if you could point out that other types of public discussion was done over an admission fee.

I was a member of GCN for a while, but I felt a pervasive sense of shame, sex-negativity and deep self-loathing among a lot of the people. Frankly, the existence of the GCN sub-group who profess to life-long celibacy because they they think that's "what God wants", sent me screaming for the door.

Not their fault of course; it's religion's fault. Still, it wasn't an energy I wanted to be around.

Big Christian organizations and churches have plenty of money from donations to cover the renting cost for the weekend. If they provide hotels then t's a little different but seems like they're not all about spreading the good word.

I'm also a member on GCN, but I have yet to attend a conference. I've heard you'll meet people whose spiritual/religious views range from fundamentalism to spiritual beliefs that affirm theism but none of the specific doctrines of a Christian denomination.
