I just woke up to see this on the news. Of all the places someone could go on a shooting rampage, I wonder why he'd choose a Batman midnight screening.

It's awful. The gun culture we live in is repulsive.

Fish in a barrel, I suppose. Coward.
I wouldn't doubt there will be some revelation about this creep like there was with the VA Tech shooter.

Hmm, Colorado has a history of gun violence. Must be something in the water.

My friend just got done telling me about this via Facebook as he happened to actually be there. Apparently, I had missed several texts about it since I was watching the movie and had my cell phone off.

People going bats over Bats. Classy.

venue35 saidWhat the fuck is up with these random shootings? They take place mostly in the states so just fucking ban guns it sounds ridiculous and impossible but something needs to be done. It's a serious fucking problem.

"The massacre on the island of Ut√łya is certain to lead to a security review, with particular stress on how Anders Behring Breivik obtained his weapons. Norway already has some of the toughest gun laws in the world, but they were apparently easily circumvented by the killer.

A licence is required to own a gun, and the owner must provide a written statement saying why he or she wants one. Many categories of guns, including automatics and some powerful handguns, are banned from sale altogether.
Hunting and outdoor sports are popular in Norway. But the laws are strict in these areas, too. Shotguns and rifles must be stored in a secure place, typically a specially designed gun safe, as must ammunition. Police have the right to inspect an owner's home to ensure the law is being followed.

Transporting a weapon to a public place is also covered by legislation. The owner must have a good reason for carrying a weapon, must ensure it is unloaded and concealed from view, but not worn on the body, and must keep the weapon under constant supervision."

I wonder if it was Islamist terror? I read that al Qaeda was looking into lone wolf gun attacks on movie theaters.

Horrific, can't imagine someone doing something like that..... must be
deranged. I've seen that theatre when I've been in Colorado seeing friends and family. What a tragedy!

This is a good day to stand up to the F'ing NRA and the Second Amendment folks ....I don't want to ban guns but I would like to see access and licensing tightened up.

The US is 12th in the world in gun related homicide rates ..... not one western developed country is worse on the list and most are heavy drug trade developing countries.

Worse yet on South Africa, Columbia, and Thailand have more numbers of gun deaths per year than the USA.

Definitely not a fan of guns but it will be impossible to ever do anything about it.If this theater was in Texas I can guarantee you about 20 other people would have a gun. Many of my friends parents have concealed hand gun licenses and carry them everywhere (except where it is prohibited).

Sadly things like this will always happen. Guns will never be banned and even if they are restrictive on who owns a gun, if a person wants to commit a crime such as this they will find a gun somehow.

    Ok, this is fucked up...

A San Diego woman who identified herself as James Holmes' mother told ABC News she had awoken unaware of the shooting and had not yet been contacted by authorities. She immediately expressed concern that her son may have been involved.

"You have the right person," she said, apparently speaking on gut instinct. "I need to call the police... I need to fly out to Colorado."

Used to live in Aurora, this theatre is only a couple miles from where I lived. Been there many times. Not exactly the nicest neighborhood, but hardly a high-crime area either. You just never think stuff like this could happen. What a tragedy.
