And perhaps 59 injured. Suspect is 24. This will stir more debate about access to firearms without background checks, and whether inflammatory public statements by media figures about this movie played any part.

Yes, I'm watching it now, listening to people who were in the movie theatres (a multiplex). Some people were shot in the adjoining screening room next to the main attack, when bullets went through the dividing wall. Not only did the guy shoot people, but might have released tear gas or smoke, and maybe set off some kind of percussive device, reports still confused. A number of children hit and allegedly killed.

The gunman wore bulletproof gear and had 4 guns. But people didn't respond right away because some movie goers were in costumes themselves. Even after he set off smoke canisters in one of the screening rooms people thought he might be part of a PR stunt during the Batman movie. Only when he started shooting into the audience and people were hit did the entire crowd react.

I just read about this a minute ago. It makes me sick how evil some people are. This is why I believe in the death penalty. The world will be a better place without some people....icon_mad.gif

A question will be if he is legally insane, and what triggeres may have set him off. I'm actually inclined to believe that anyone who does something like this almost MUST be insane. The task being to learn how he became that way.

Some kind of inherent defect in his brain? If so, what were the warning signals, and were they missed? Was there a precipitating incident that could have been avoided? And above all, could this have been prevented?

I'm willing to bet this guy is like Virginia Tech shooter. Way too organized and he obviously targeted a largely populated area. Insanity doesn't fit the bill here.

He's probably some sociopath who got sick and tired of the way people treated him.

On the bright side (there isn't any bright side to this - I'm being sarcastic here) it's giving The Dark Knight Rises FREE publicity...

At 71 total casualties (12 dead, 59 wounded) this is now being reported as the largest mass shooting in US history, though not the most fatalities.

    Hardly. Southerners have short memories?
In May, 1921, a bunch of crackers unloaded their guns in the black section of Tulsa and killed 300 blacks.

First I had to go through metal detectors at Municipal and Government Building
s because some crazies were going postal and got themselves some ammunition to kill some people
Then it was the Schools where you had police cars doing patrols at High Schools becaue of some sad situations like Columbine

Then I had to be herded like cattle and empty my pockets and walk around barefoot in an attempt to get to grandma's house for Thanksgiving because a certain administration fell short when they should have been listening to terrorist reports

.... and NOW I need to be worried about getting GLOCKED if I go and see a cinema festival bringing back the Sound of Music icon_neutral.gif

So tell me again Members of the NRA?

Why The F**k you need a semi-automatic rifle to kill a Squirrel?

Is this what the Second Amendment means by, "A well regulated militia ?"

As long as the Congress remains a whore for the NRA, don't be surprised, every time this happens.
