I know it's one of the Ten Commandments but it's #10 so it has to be the most forgivable one. So I'm gonna covet. Right now I'm coveting HorrorHound's massive shoulders. And I covet the talent of people like Karl and Nomadfornow and Gmack and ChoklitDaddy. What particular attribute or asset of a RealJock member do you covet?

I was taught as a child that coveting means you want to have what they have, and as a result they loose it when you get it.

This is different from wanting to have the same talents or attributes another has, which means there would be more with talents.

*wonders if this makes sense, lol*

Well I have no problem with HorrorHound losing his shoulders in order for me to have them.icon_twisted.gif Really? I just thought coveting meant you wanted what someone else had. Taking it from them so you can have it is called armed robbery.

I wonder how many of the other 9 Commandments I didn't fully understand? I might be a sinner by default.

Biblically to covet is to desire something that belongs to someone else. It doesn't necessarily reference theft or gain/loss.

Nah, coveting is just an inordinate desire or envy. I guess the idea is, first comes coveting, then comes armed robbery. So let's nip this in the bud. No coveting.

I covet anyone with a lean belly region in general... it's where I gather most of my fat so I'm constantly fighting this. some guys (see: Swag101 for example) make it look effortless!

Or the other way around; thinking you're sinning when all along you haven't been (and that's a lot more common than you might imagine) icon_wink.gif

To split hairs further (and more magnificently) coveting another's house means you want their house. Wanting a house LIKE theirs is an entirely different matter.

...and of course wanting to be healthy and fit like other guys on this site is probably good for you, wouldn't you say?

    *bats eyes winningly*

Links to the 10 Commandments? They should be in your Bible somewhere.

It does make sense. As I've also noted, the English language doesn't really have a single word that means that you admire someone, and wish to have what they have, but without depriving them of it in the process. You just want the same thing, too.

Words like "envy" and "jealously" have negative connotations. Does such an English word exist, and should there be one?

Jeepers! Flattering to be listed in such company. Coach_Mike, you are so getting a drawing.

I don't know that I actually covet your looks; but I must admit I can't help thinking it must be nice to be a handsome white boy. Modesty be damned, I've always had my admirers - but you're what pretty much everybody wants.

What I covet most is people's relationships -- with their friends, with their families, with their romantic partners.

What I also covet is people's physical gifts -- their looks, their bodies, their athletic abilities, and most of all, their energy levels.

Yeah, I do a lot of coveting.
