No hookup, no LTR, no lifetime commitments or drama. I'm just an older guy (51) icon_redface.gif who wants someone to relate to about becoming fit and healthy.

OMG You must be on some killer anti-psych meds! LOL:icon_twisted.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_lol.gif

The weather is hot and humid. But not like it was last week. We're only at 29% humidity. We're supposed to reach a high of 104 with thunder storms. Probably no rain though.

Casual. I want a partner as much as anybody, but I want to live long enough to enjoy him. So yeah, I need someone to kick my butt every now and then and push me at the gym. I don't really know what I'm doing other than sweating a lot! icon_confused.gif The gym trainer put me on an hour of cardio with 30 mins walking followed by 30 on the bike. I have yet to finish both. icon_redface.gif Then I do routine called "interval training" I think. With that I do steps, then a machine, then steps, then another machine. All in 60 second (maybe 90 seconds, it's timed with a red and green light) "sets." It takes about 30 mins to do the entire program. So for an hour and a half I'm in the gym. By time I'm finished I'm really tired and by the next morning I'm a little sore. Not as sore as I expected. So I suspect I need to do more, but I don't know which of what to increase.

    Wow, all that from

BTW, this is a pain using my phones browser. Someone inquired about an app in another thread and apparently RJ isn't interested. Too bad. I think it would go a long way in improving the conversations

I've been thinking about replying to this thread for a couple of days, especially in light of the OP's postings in other threads.

First: RJ is great for online interaction and encouragement, but not so great for meeting people out and about. Find other ways to meet people locally.

Second: In response to your characterizing yourself as "flabby and old," 51 is not that old. Really. It better not be, I'm 51. As for "flabby," kudos for taking the first steps in turning your life around, but where you end up is all about you and your attitude and not so much to do with your age.

Third: While I don't like some of the ageism here any more than you do, your statement that you are "not of a generation that took time to work out (as a generality) because we were working to pay your bills (as in your parent's generation) offend me and discourage me from even trying to lead a healthier life" is a load of crap. Literally. How were you working to pay the younger generation's bills? And why? How do younger generations of healthy, good-looking and well-adjusted young men discourage you from being healthy? You are where you are in large part because of the choices you have made. Own them and take responsibility. If you haven't been healthy and out, so be it, but that's your issue and not a result of your generation. I'm the same age as you, but am in a very different place with regard to my health and sexuality because I made different choices. If you want to change things, that's awesome, do that, it's never too late to do something differerent. But don't blame your own issues on others who have nothing to do with them.

Fourth: No, the details of your sex life aren't anyone else's business, but the FACT that you are gay should ultimately be just as out as your friends' and colleagues' heterosexuality is. Every time they talk about a wedding, a date, an evening with a husband or wife, they are mentioning their heterosexuality. Being unapologetic about who you are isn't "waving the rainbow flag." Wise up and don't feel inferior about yourself. You are who you are, and that's fine. There is nothing so unattractive as someone who is embarrassed about himself.

    That's all for now.

While this may be true - not everyone has the same choices to make or even control over some of the choices we were forced to make in our past. Everyone carries a different burden. icon_wink.gif

In retrospect, I clearly had my "Lecture Spice" hat on and probably came on too strong. I think it's cool that the OP is taking control of his life, and that didn't come through very well. Apologies.

I completely agree. I just don't think it's worthwhile to blame them on the younger generation. Or that someone of my generation simply couldn't come out or stay in reasonable shape. My whole point is that this isn't true. If the OP wants to be more out and to get in shape, I would hope that would be freeing.
