I was in Chicago recently and the most memorable thing I did was take a nighttime architectural tour on the Chicago River. Took the 'Shoreline' cruise boat. The tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. Also, if you take (I believe) the 9:00 p.m. cruise on a Saturday evening, before heading out on the tour, the boat parks in the harbor for for an amazing view of the weekly fireworks show near the Navy Pier. Both the architectural tour and fireworks show were excellent.

I generally don't enjoy visiting big cities, but Chicago is an exception....just a great city.

You should check out the schedule for the concerts playing at Grant Park. I believe it's the only city in the world with an outdoor concert area and many of the seats are free. They're further away so the view is not as great. The closer seating is for people who pay very generous donations. Behind the "free" seats you can sit in an area on the grass and bring a picnic and enjoy some beautiful music. The two I've been to this year were classical contemporary concerts and it was amazing. Not only was the weather gorgeous on both days but one of the concerts had a large movie screen display. So it was like watching a movie with a perfectly orchestrated
symphony as the musical score. The last concert I was invited to was a showcasing of a musical conductor (visiting from England) who created the musical score for the Arctic and Antarctica regions of the planet and their wildlife. It was breathtaking and like a National Geographic type of program. As I watched the movie I had to remind myself that I was listening to live music as the movie above displayed. It was, indeed perfection and the occasional summer breeze that hits your skin as you get to enjoy beautiful music and stunning visuals was probably one of the nicest treats I've had. Tourists in Chicago should definitely check this out.

I'm sure you can enjoy something similar to this and for no cost. I recommend you check it out. Do a Google search for "Grant Park Chicago music festival 2012 schedule" to find something that might interest you.

    Enjoy your trip!

^^^ and plus, the lawn at the Pritzer Pavillion has a liquor license, so you're allowed to BYOB. My friends and I always bring a picnic with a few bottles of wine when we go to the concerts.

Have breakfast at Ann Sathers restaurant - try the original location on Belmont (there are several new locations now). It used to be (may still be) a rather gay crowd. I am old enough to remember the original Ann Sather, who in her 80's served as hostess and fairy grandmother to the crowd, having sold the restaurant to a 30's gay man who has since become an alderman. As it used to be a Swedish restaurant, the best breakfast choice is Swedish pancakes with lignonberries. It's an only in Chicago sort of place.

RowBuddy saidAnything but boystown. Don't waste your time when there is so much more to life than stupid plastic bois listening to lady gaga remixes. Chicago is a great city with some good gay guys around, its the gay men in Boystown that give it a bad rap.

Wow, someone had a bad experience... I had the opposite. Last time I was in Boystown, I had a great conversation with a 45YO guy that confessed his love story to me. We got drunk and made 3 friends my age that night, and then we danced and had a great time. The next day, we all hung out and toured the city together, except the older guy who came to the city to meet his love. Pretty awesome!

Wrigley Field (if you like baseball) and Gino's East (if you like deep dish). There's actually a slightly better deep dish place, but the name escapes me. Also, the architecture boat tour is pretty cool.

Good call. Except there's a wall of mosquitos that forms right at the entrance of the pier.

Even though I'm not big on art museums, I've been to the Lichtenstein exhibit at the Art Institute, and it's great: http://roy.artic.edu/explore

Wrigley is great if you like stupid drunk girls that know nothing about baseball. The piss troughs are a nice touch, though. (they have those at camp Randall too)

Try a local hot dog, go to a bar/club, meet some guys, hang out, go out to eat the next day, have sex, leave with some decency and know where to get a good bite to eat next time you're in town. Repeat* with every trip.

Sorry.. I have to disagree with that, Cubs crowds suck, but thats because I'm not one to let people get away anything. Sox crowds aren't better by much, but at least you get to watch the home team win.
