Ukraine Wants To Ban All Positive Images of Gays

If a group of lawmakers have their way, TV shows and movies depicting gay people could be banned in Ukraine.

Last month, six legislators, including President Viktor Yanukovych's representative in parliament, submitted a law that calls for prohibiting the "propaganda of homo-sexuality." If passed, the law would impose fines and even jail terms on those who deliberately disseminate positive information about gays to minors. Anything from movies, television series, photographs and even art exhibits viewable by children would become illegal.

Lawmaker Pavlo Ungurian, who co-wrote the bill, told a news conference Monday that its goal was to preserve "the moral, spiritual and physical health of the nation."

The bill has caused outrage among Western rights groups and politicians who said it would make being openly gay effectively illegal.

    Retrograde.

It is interesting that the Ukraine does seem to one of the biggest culprits in the sex-slave trade, but yet obsesses so much about gays.

Not only are they horrifically homophobic, but hugely anti-Semitic as well.

The more Ukraine wants to distance itself from Russia, the more it continues to be like Russia. But it doesn't help that their current president and administration are basically right-hand men of Vladimir Putin icon_rolleyes.gif

What's wrong with people? Sometimes it seems that society is going backwards, instead of progressing forward.

That's because Ukraine's Orange Revolution in 2004 was a big bust. Nothing in their country changed like they thought it would when they elected Viktor Yushchenko. People were disillusioned that a pro-Ukrainian president didn't accomplish much because his cabinet was corrupt, plus the drama of Yulia Tymoshenko. The government had to be dissolved several times. So then people fed up with the bullshit went with a pro-Russian president, Viktor Yanukovych in 2010.

I went a Ukrainian funeral in Santa Barbara. The church going seem very family orientated and they all get up and sing in front of the elders. The people seem very nice. I don't know how the Ukrainians could be so anti-gay but I guess it is a strong belief in the scriptures right or wrong. I think they should concentrate on the druggies, prostitutes and criminals instead. I don't remember the last gay person that has committed a crime among my friends.

You can tell alot about a country by its definition of what constitutes "manliness". In the Ukraine (as in Russia and much of what's left of the Soviet Union), one's degree of manliness is calculated in how many shots of vodka it takes to collapse under the table in a pool of one's own vomit.

Hmm what made you think that Ukrainian president is Putin's right hand? If anything he's Rinat Akhmetov's bitch, Putin probably sucks up to him too. Russia has their oil pipes running through Ukraine, so they need it more and need on to be on the good terms with UA in order to export their oil to Europe.

But as far as the topic goes, approving any kind of gay agenda will do nothing good for their politicians and they dont give a damn about their people. Being pro gay will actually hurt their career. The country is ran by a bunch of idiots who sell their own to make money. It's one fucked up place to live when everything is so corrupt. Money hungry whores.

So much for Ukraine wanting to integrate with the rest of Europe icon_rolleyes.gif Although virtually every country east of Germany and Czech Republic doesn't like the gays.

Well damn, I've always wanted to go to Kyiv, Odesa, and Lviv. Hell, I even started learning Ukrainian not too long ago!

Long ago I banned all positive images of Ukraine and to be honest, not much has changed in my life since then, in fact, I pretty much forgot about Ukraine until this very post. I guess this is Ukraine getting even for my slight. Blame me.

Interesting how the lawmarker, Pavel Ungurean, is a member of the All-Ukrainian Union (a pro-Ukrainian political party), but yet lives in Odessa, a Russian-dominated city icon_wink.gif

It was just an option. My latest quasi-goal in life (already accomplished childhood dreams(s) was to see the all the 7 natural wonders of the world from the air...just saw the Grand Canyon this weekend (aerial tour)...6 more to go.

Once I finish those, if Ukraine's govt is still run by assholes, it'll still be off my list.

If not, it seems like it could potentially be a pretty fun place to visit.

LOL! I wonder if there are any? You're talking about a country that has overwhelmingly more women than men, and the few men that do exist are usually drunkards icon_rolleyes.gif
