Perhaps. Nothing a priori rules it out as a possibility. It certainly seems convincing. There seems to be documented evidence of strokes causing other major personality changes in some people (as seen in this doc with the guy who woke up with artistic talent and an insatiable urge to create, when having absolutely none before). If the brain's synapses are somehow re-wired during the stroke, then it logically makes sense to me that this is in the realm of possibility with all other behaviours and characteristics dictated by our cerebral make-up.

Yet, the thing I find very strange about this is he didn't just wake up attracted to men, he also woke up and has since been noticeably more feminine in demeanour than before the stroke when he seemed more conventionally masculine.

There are some feminine straight guys and many masculine gay guys (based on my own anecdotal evidence, I admit).

So, I wonder if this suggests gay men are naturally more feminine, and if so, masc gay guys are merely subconsciously modulating their/our behaviour to conform to societies paradigm of manliness and masculinity in all other controllable areas, or (we) have trained them/ourselves to do so during early development childhood/early teenage years, and it is now simply second nature to us?

Just thinking aloud, keeping an open mind.

I heard about that a few months ago. I'm wondering if maybe part of the brain that controlled inhibition or fear may have been affected by the stroke. Or maybe it's just to get himself in the news and become a Youtube celebrity.

JP_Crankworthy saidAt the time this came out, I asked a neurologist if a stroke could have this kind of effect. His answer was: "It is theoretically possible."

The side-effects of stroke come from the scarring-over of brain tissue. If an area of the brain is 'closed off" permanently because of scarring, then a new neural pathway can be forged. This is what happens in physical therapy, teaching the brain a new way to handle what a now-destroyed part of the brain used to handle.

Since "theory" is pretty much a bunch of arm-waving at this point, it would probably be more accurate to say: "Weirder shit has happened."

But if we accept that he woke up gay after the stroke, then does that mean that being gay IS a sign of having or being born with neurological problem?

Did he absorb too much gay from Magneto in X-Men? Is that why his hair has a white streak now? I'm pretty sure the same thing happened to Rogue in the first movie.

I've heard people say, "Don't sit so close. I might catch gay."

    Is gay contagious?

I caught gay in March 1982. I've been gay ever since.

I think he used to much bleach on his hair and that is what did it! Sounds like a pretty easy way to not own who he really was/is.

He remembers very little of his life before the stroke. This is probably a matter of him coming out of the closet, rather than changing his sexuality.

Maybe once again bi is being confused for gay; and bi is neither straight or gay, because it's bi.

Well, he did only say "I woke up gay," not "I woke up bonafide gay."

Anything is possible, but it's a one off situation. Plus, this could just be a convenient excuse to come out without the fear of judgment. If a stroke "caused his homosexuality," then his friends and family would be publicly ridiculed for turning his back on him.

Obviously, this wasn't planned in advance. If he was in an incredibly tough situation, this may have been the only way he felt comfortable doing it.

He probably had a carotid artery dissection or a vertebral artery dissection (a tear in one of the arteries that leads to the brain) . I had a carotid artery dissection and it really had no impact on my sexuality. I lost my sex drive temporarily from the stroke because I was depressed and hemiplegic, but it came back as soon as the artery healed and blood flow returned to the brain. I really don't see how it could change a person's sexuality because nothing in my brain changed. The blood flow to my brain just stopped temporarily.

Apparently the stroke didn't just wake him up gay; seems it also change his sense of fashion.
