The negative effects of PORN

I just read this article from Huffington Post today "What I Wish I'd Known Before Watching Porn" about a woman's personal reflection on how porn has affected her. I found it interesting, since it was from a woman's perspective. To a certain degree, I think I can relate to some of what she wrote in her "I wish" list.

Any thoughts on your own personal reflections on porn's effects on you and your sex life? Good or bad? Do you consider yourself as having an "addiction" to it?

    I don't have an addiction. I have a subscription.

And the only negative effect is when it takes 10 updates to find a new video that I actually enjoy.

yes, I'd say it negatively affects my sex life to an extent especially since i'm black and live in a predominately white neighborhood. Sometimes when I get hit up by guys, the first thing they say is how big's your dick as if that's the ONLY important quailty they are looking for in me. Granted I know gays can be quite shallow and being men(more visually stimulated) I get it, but I feel my white and latino counterparts get way more leeway. Gay porn featuring blacks puts little emphasis on how attractive the models SHOULD BE are or how nice their body is and focuses only on the "BIG BLACK DICK!!!' we are all expected to have and that's a little unfair. ( I also blame the porn companies, I want to tell them stop hiring busted ass dudes!) Also I think a lot of non blacks are literally afraid to hook up with blacks because porn also always depicts us as thugs who "beat it up" and will literally destroy your ass. I believe this is where a lot of people's "preferences" stem from.

I may lay off on the porn for a while just to revamp my imagination. You can definitely build up a tolerance for porn. Back when, I used to be able to get off by the still images that took 2 minutes to load on dial-up. Now anything less than a video with really hot guys won't do.

I was exposed to pornography at a really young age... I messed up my ideas of women while I was still 'heterosexually' identified. Then I slowly realized, I like men, and my feelings towards women were pretty much obsolete.

    Unlikely.

Most of us here aren't evangelicals and have outgrown the faith-conditioned self-loathing stage.

"I wish someone would have told me that the kind of pornography you're most turned on by is usually linked to a corresponding hurtful event in your life, further injuring your brokenness."

That's interesting, never heard that before. Strangely enough, I've never had all that strong of an appetite for porn. I do browse picture galleries at times, but hardly ever actually watch a video. I can't relate, so that's all I'm gonna say.

Most women are fucked up (read, have completely different ideas than men) about porn.

There was a study where they were going to compare men who watched porn against men who didn't. They couldn't find a sufficiently large sample of men who didn't look at porn to do the study. So they cancelled it.

yeah I just do not see this article applicable to gay men or men in general..porn is not taboo for men, it is for women, men are very visual stimulated, women not so much. Im not saying that men do not have problems with porn addiction but I think men and women are very different to study.

I wish someone would have told me that the dopamine and oxytocin being released from my watching certain types of pornography would cause me to question my sexual orientation, which in turn cost me relationships with friends.

I think the article is relevant to either gender...

Personally, I can identify with several points. I objectify some men and I'm sure I'm objectified by men as well. Porn can also ruin sexual relationships. I know there were times when I would imagine some porn star while having sex with my ex. It got to the point where'd I prefer to get off on my own time than engage with him. Watching porn really made my focus on my problem areas too. I'd focus on the assets of the models that I wanted to improve. I don't think I'm addicted to pornography but I could definitely cut back. lol

I am not sure if I am "addicted" but I'll tell you some problems I have and you can decide if they're good or bad. icon_wink.gif

    * I have about 16 older Men, 10 Unzipped, 9 Freshmen and 4 Playgirl older porn magazines. I'm closing on 40 dvds Gay porn, a lot of Euro, Twinks, Bel Ami, Falcon/Rascal videos. I have about 26 short videos/mobile clips on my phone.

The thing is I am all for a healthy sexual and even kinky appetite, using toys or whatever can get you off. I have noticed that if I don't watch porn either on my 37" plasma, phone or jo to a playgirl/twink magazine before I go to bed and I can't cum, I can't fully go to sleep. I just feel uneasy and restless the next day. The other thing I noticed is my member doesn't get hard or feel excited if I watch *Ethnic/Latin/Asian/Black* gay porn. I think it exclusively just response to Euro/White twink porn now! What can I do to get *my member* to be excited by non-white porn now? Any ideas? (and No I'm not trying to be funny or racist).

So I think the only negative effect that all the *porn* items had on me is I have a white/Euro guy fetish! Is this hot, normal, kinky or frown upon? I guess I do have a problem, first step of getting help is to admit I have a *porn addiction fetish. icon_wink.gif

I think porn is bad if you are addicted to it. Watching occasionally is ok for guys if they aren't or don't intend to be in relationships. It is just a fact of life for most gay guys I think. If I were straight and dating a woman then I don't think watching women getting sexually abused on screen is healthy. Gay porn just seems more real and satisfying for both parties. Straight porn the guy just takes advantage of the woman which is the reason for the uproar.

women's perception of porn is different since men think 3 times more in sex than women

At such a young age I am. I am a constant porn fapper. When my boyfriend and I have sex I must lay on my back and jack off. My body is so used to me laying on my back to ejaculate. I've topped a couple of times and could never cum, I would go at it for like 20 minutes non stop and nothing.

Andrea Dworkin would swoon over this.

Based on the article, I'd say the author had some problems that pre-dated her introduction to porn.

It reminds me of the typical ex-gay life story: "I'm a sexual compulsive/ drug user/ alcoholic because of my respressed homosexualty! Right?!"

No doll, you're a troubled, promiscuous borderline personality who just happens to be gay, in the same way that this author is an individual riddled with personal problems who happens to like porn.

Women hardly ever talk about how they're own worst enemies -- how quickly that sisterhood thing goes out the window when their intense lust to compete wins out; how they starve themselves down not because hetero men love stick figures, but because women themselves are obsessed with them; how actresses get breast implants because the other chicks standing next to them look hotter in their dresses; how they devote themselves to cruel and unloving men because of their own inherent masochism, not because men put their "disease" in them

i dont know if it is just me but, i really like the loving affectionate, "couples" porn i guess. i cant stand watching two empty cumbots, wo are probably straight, with zero content fucking the ass of each other. such a turn off it just looks so empty and meaningless. i used to watch the DL chronicles, and the one with the health sop guy and the agent, OMG!!!

THAT SEX SCENE WAS AWESOME. icon_biggrin.gif

and it wasnt particularly explicit, but the intsensity of lust between the two men was great. thats what i relate to, that uncontrollable lust and tactile communication.

anyway, the article was typical women, talking shit and validating said shit with references to sexism YAAAAAAWN !!! icon_rolleyes.gif
