Has anyone ever found themselves feeling addicted to the gym?
I admit I initially started to go more because there were two hot guys who would always go at the same time on the same days so invariably there would be at least one of them there.
But today I found myself so into my workout that I had to convince myself to leave so I wouldn't be late for class.

Over the past year, I've become a total gym rat. I've gotten to the point where If I don't spend 2 hours at the gym everyday, I just feel odd. Hell ... I'm a grad student so I will rearrange my experiments/tutoring to make sure that I'll have enough time at the gym.

Ha, ha! I schedule my classes and my work schedule around my gym work outs. If I don't go to the gym the days I'm used to going I'll feel completely out of place...

Working out can definitely become addicting
That word is a little misleading because it brings alot of baggage with it
of course if it's keeping you from class that's not a good thing but overall working out is good for you all the way round
when you use your body and workout
the body sends out endorphins....the same chemicals that are released when you eat...have sex and with many drugs>>> natural high

not this last winter, but the one before it, i went every day- sometimes twice a day! i'd work out, go to class, then go BACK for a yoga class or to swim or something. it was my first year at college, with a 'free' gym membership and a new rec center, so i was hooked. i def know what you mean about the motivation of there being hot guys there, and about feeling 'off' and weird if a workout is missed....
then i got too busy with joining a fraternity and all, and fell out of the habit. it's been so hard for me to get back into it- my major is extremely time consuming and stressful (i envy the business majors with their 'free time' lol), and im in two fraternities, plus other obligations- i have to fight to make the occasional time to get to the gym, and there are even times when i AM free to work out, but am too mentally exhausted from my day to bother.
i desperatly want to get back into the routine i had that winter... but i don't know how to motivate myself to get back into it like that...

Well I've certainly been there... having the gym next to the Physics department at both my undergrad and graduate universities certainly meant there was no good reason NOT to go... and it sure beats work!

Any activity that gives you pleasure can become addictive... like kitesurfing!... with weight training though one can very obviously harm oneself by overtraining. Had a mate (=friend) who really did become addicted to weights, and he did himself some serious harm. It's very important to seek professional help if you anyone thinks they might be _actually_ be addicted.

I'm totally addicted to the gym. I've known that for YEARS!!! I love it though. I see my friends there and we push each other pretty hard when we lift or box.

    That's what we do.

I'd rather be addicted to the gym than to be addicted to something harmful that destroys a lot of people in the GLBT community.
