Many reasons why u might get ur ass kicked out in Eckington: got out of a nice car, holding hands with the BF, breathing, etc. Seems like a bad idea for the victims to be so uncertain about if it was a "hate crime" or not.

    Nice. Blame the victims.

No, sometimes crime is just criminals doing crime like stuff, not hate filled idiots beating gays because they are gay.

So you agree it's the victims faults for being in the wrong neighborhood? Are you really that fucking retarded?

What a horribly written article. Hopefully they catch these lowlifes and send them away for a long time.

That sucks. I've known way too many people who have been jumped or robbed in DC. It's not an unsafe town but bad things can definitely happen even if you're careful. People forget it's a city since it feels more like a big town. I hope Mike makes a full recovery. He's lucky it's just a broken jaw. Could have been a lot worse.

I thought this only happened in the Bible Belt states like Texas? Once again proving that hate crimes happen everywhere. Sad to see this happen regardless.

Thank god for the couple who came to their rescue. Hopefully Michael makes a full recovery and both aren't traumatized from this experience. I am glad the police are investigating it as a hate crime and I hope those fuckers are caught.

    another reason why I workout.

I don't believe that's what he was trying to do. i think he is just stating "as was also stated in the report" that he isn't sure that it was a hate crime, potentially just being a crime. I agree with him. Read his post again...

Its terrible that this happens to people globally, gay or straight, regardless as to the "why". Crime is a challenge and i don't know how one can sort this out in the long term. icon_sad.gif

This seems more like a hate crime because I don't think most criminals would put someone in the hospital like this just to rob them.

You must be Republican, and a politician, and not into gay men, unless they're in your bed. Am I right? icon_biggrin.gif

How terrible that his parents expected this to happen!

His parents, Mike and Gail Hall of Colonial Beach, Va., worried for their son’s safety when he moved to the District nine years ago.

“Every morning, get up and turn Channel 4 news on and see if he was alive or not, who got killed or stabbed,” Mike Hall said.

“My biggest nightmare was that this would happen eventually,” Gail Hall said.

    http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2010/crime-in-the-u.s.-2010/violent-crime/violent-crime

"In 2010, an estimated 1,246,248 violent crimes occurred nationwide, a decrease of 6.0 percent from the 2009 estimate.
When considering 5- and 10-year trends, the 2010 estimated violent crime total was 13.2 percent below the 2006 level and 13.4 percent below the 2001 level.
There were an estimated 403.6 violent crimes per 100,000 inhabitants in 2010.
Aggravated assaults accounted for the highest number of violent crimes reported to law enforcement at 62.5 percent. Robbery comprised 29.5 percent of violent crimes, forcible rape accounted for 6.8 percent, and murder accounted for 1.2 percent of estimated violent crimes in 2010.
Information collected regarding type of weapon showed that firearms were used in 67.5 percent of the Nation’s murders, 41.4 percent of robberies, and 20.6 percent of aggravated assaults"

Again, this is a massive challenge today. And i feel sorry for anyone who gets touched by this.

Well, depending on who you ask, some might consider DC part of the South. No doubt people from the North think DC is "the South", but people from the Deep South would think DC is part of Yankeeland. Maybe the geographical position of DC can be debated, but there's virtually no Southern culture of any kind in DC.

Funny how the swine who question if this was a hate crime conveniently ignore the fact that the "woman and her boyfriend" who came to their aid were not attacked.

DC is in the North. They were in the North during the Civil War so the culture didn't change like it did in the South.

Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin are from the north. Nuff said.

D.C. police spokesperson Gwendolyn Crump: “Sunday, July 22, at approximately midnight, two complainants were in the 1900 block of 3rd Street, N.E., when three suspects appeared from an unknown direction and began to yell homophobic slurs at them.”

And some will still question if hate bias was involved.
