"Trolling" and why it's all so subjective..

People are so fucking quick to scream "TROLLING" on a topic that they otherwise think is stupid, silly, or irrelevant.

For example, someone brought up "satanism" as a thread topic and a meth-faced fag right off the bat screamed "trolling"...... basically trying to derail the otherwise legit thread topic.

Who has the right to deem something "trolling" or not? I didnt think the thread on satanism was trolling in the least. I would have enjoyed reading the responses from posters who have an opinion on the subject, rather than reading some ugly fuck's opinion on what he thinks is trolling or not. which btw, It's not IMO.

I see this all the time. Someone will post about a topic and then because someone thinks it's stupid, or it has been discussed before, or whatever posts a gif about "trolling" (go ahead people; label this a "troll" thread, but it needs to be discussed).... I often times will come into a thread and see a bunch of people screaming like little fucking internet queens "TROLL POST" icon_rolleyes.gif

than fuck off if u think it's a troll post. Let people who wanna discuss the topic post.

Is there a list of acceptable thread topics out there in the internet? Who is the authority on whether something is "trolling"? I'd love to know.

TROLLING TROLL POST! sorry I had to

I noticed it's usually the guys that think they run this site who deem what topics are acceptable or not. Ignore it, and continue trolling! I mean posting.

Yeah, I agree. The word "troll" is tossed around so freely these days, it sort of lost its meaning. This is why we need an "Ignore This Thread" feature. Makes things easier for the rest of us to bypass lame or redundant threads.

Agreed. But let me play devil's advocate for minute (notice the clever satanism reference). Calling certain posts trolling is a knee-jerk reaction because we do have many active trolls here (or we did). Now, to some people, everything looks like trolling. There are people here who create a lot of topics, ask a lot of questions, or get into a lot of heated discussions. But their intent isn't to troll. They just have...offputting...personalities. They are very easy to ignore, so it's really more of a bad reflection on those people who lose their cool over something so minor.

Definitely. I've been on the internetz for a long time and know how to mentally block/ignore certain people/topics. My main reason for wanting an Ignore Thread option is to cut down on clutter when I scroll down the list of thread topics. Scrolling on a little smartphone screen sucks. icon_lol.gif

There were two posts about trolling on that satanism topic, the first was mild and the one that Import is focusing on, the second, by a different poster, was far more explicit.

    Selectivity weakens the argument.

And yet another thread about another guy's inability to ignore what he doesn't want to see. It's not that hard. You don't really need the ignore button. icon_rolleyes.gif
