    Sad songs are so beautiful.

This song about Vincent van Gogh always makes me verklemt. icon_neutral.gificon_cry.gif

    Starry, starry night
Paint your pallette blue and gray.
Look out on a summer's day
With eye's that know the darkness in my soul.
    Shadows on the hills
    Sketch the trees and daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land.
    Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen; they did not know how --
    Perhaps they'll listen now.
    Starry, starry night
    Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
    Swirling clouds in violet haze
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue
    Colors changing hue
    Morning fields of amber grain
    Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand.
    Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen; they did not know how --
    Perhaps they'll listen now.
For they could not love you
But still, your love was true
And when no hope was left inside
    On that starry, starry night
You took your life as lovers often do --
But I could've told you, Vincent:
    This world was never meant
For one as beautiful as you.
Like the strangers that you've met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
The silver thorn, a bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow.
    Now I think I know
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen; they're not listening still --
    Perhaps they never will...

    JUST LIKE TOM THUMBS BLUES

When you're lost in the rain in Juarez and it's Easter time too
    and your gravity fails
and negativity don't pull you through
    don't put on any airs
when you're down on rue morgue avenue
they got some hungry women there
and they really make a mess out of you

Now if you see Saint Annie
please tell her thanks a lot
    I cannot move
my fingers are all in a knot
    I don't have the strength
to get up and take another shot
and my best friend my doctor
won't even say what it is I have got

    Sweet Melinda
the peasants call her the goddess of gloom
    she speaks good English
and she invites you up into her room
    and you're so kind
and careful not to go to her too soon
    and she takes your voice
and leaves you howling at the moon

    Up on housing project hill
    it's either fortune or fame
you must pick one or the other
    though neither of them
are to be what they claim
if you're looking to get silly
you better go back from where you came
because the cops don't need you
and man they expect the same

    Now all the authorities
they just stand around and boast
hew they blackmailed the sergeant at arms
    into leaving his post
    and picking up angel who
just arrived here from the coast
who looked so fine at first
but left looking like a ghost

When I started out on burgundy
but soon hit the harder stuff
everybody said they'd stand behind me
    when the game got rough
but the joke was on me
there was nobody even there to bluff
I'm going back to New York City
I do believe I've had enough

Two come to mind, one being from a game I've played, and the other being an actual song:

This hits me right in my soul. I think of my sister Katia who passed away four months ago from cancer.

@AM988 - good suggestion with the Gary Jules song.

Some more I've been listening to recently (just out of an LTR):

    Coldplay - The Scientist
Billy Joel - And So it Goes
Ron Pope - A Drop in the Ocean
    Shinedown - Call Me
    Adele - Someone Like You
    Parachute - Kiss Me Slowly
    Dido - White Flag
Staggered Crossing - Times Made Up my Mind

omg i have a youtube playlist which is called "Sad Shit"
most of it is Christina Aguillera, including this song "You Lost Me" about love lost. Its from the album "Bionic" and this performance on David Letterman was better than the official video.

and of course Britney's "Everytime" which is a love song, but used the familiar visuals of the media storm around her to make a comment about abuse and a weird allegorical reference to reincarnation.
