Fake Profile "Red Flags"

What are some of the things that make you suspect that a profile is fake? Aside from obvious things (pictures of a famous actor, bodybuilder, model, or athlete; or pictures of different people in the same profile), what makes you skeptical?

Here are some of the things that do it for me:

    * "Do a little research". Sometimes the guy is just out of touch with what proper height-weight proportioning is. I've seen profiles with pictures of some BUILT buff guy, with height 6'3" weight 135#.

    * "Birds of a feather". When the vast majority of guys on someone's "friends" list also look like fakes, it makes me think that person is fake. After all, if you are fake, then you really don't care whether the people you talk to are real... you're just there to collect "hot pix" anyway.

    * "Methinks the Lady doth protest too much". My favorite phenomenon is when a profile that looks fake anyway seems to try to deflect suspicion by including the text: "I HATE FAKERS!!!1 FAKERS SUCK!!!!111" and so on and so forth. This is not so prevalent on here, but I've seen it a lot on some other sites. It's as if they expect people to think, "Oh, he hates fakers, so he MUST be real!"

So what else? What are some of the things that make YOU go "Hmmm?"

    * Compulsively seeks out other fakers (despite the thousands of guys that are verified and/or have 'buddies' that can be contacted for references).

    * The vast majority of his "buddies" are all either 'without text', 'without head', or 'without pic'.

    * When (seemingly) scorching hot guys are on RJ ALL day and every weekend.

Usually if it's one picture posted and nothing in the profile itself. One sure way would be if they're verified, but it seems like not that many people do that on here (although I don't know why).

Yeah, I've noticed a lot of the height, weight, and age data not matching the photo.

But maybe I'm strange. I don't pay a lot of attention to any profile, even with hot pics, unless the guy has actually taken the time to fill it out and write something.

How about, when you ask them to verify their profile and they refuse... You don't have to call them on their lie to stop talking to them. It's like, you don't my unlocking is worth a couple minutes of your time?! stupid.

*Wrong Time Zone* You chat with the guy and make some comment about the time of day and even though they are around the globe from you they mention its the same time of day there too.

I don't know that all guys with just pics are fakes. But I don't care for them. I've been im'd and emailed by guys with just pics and I respond, but quickly point out they need to work on their profile and get back to me if they want any interaction.

    hmmm... I highly suspect that fakes are lurking and not contributing;
many viewings here and very few postings... hmmm.

I'm a fake profile. All this shimmering artifice is just to lure you into buying my product. I have yet to decide what the product will be, but it shall be cheap to produce and very expensive. Possibly an eau de toilette of some description, although there seems to be good money in masturbating in frat houses

Pics that obviously have been cropped from other pics.

    Profiles with just one pic.

Profiles that don't show a person with any friends, or outside doing something - anything (biking, hiking, travel, a party, etc).

I've been doing graphics for years.

    Any pic can be faked.

And then we need to define a "fake" pic.

What if it's the actual person - from 10 years ago?

What if the shot is from an angle that doesn't show everything?

What if the pic is retouched? Enhanced? Color corrected or brightness/contrast adjusted to make a little muscle look more cut?

The only way to tell for sure is cam2cam. That's what I do with anyone I want to talk with.

However, I've gotten on with a lot of guys who say they have a cam, and then time after time that cam isn't working.

Cam is the only way you are ever going to be able to see the other person as they are.

turned out to more attractive then in thei pix. hmmmm...

Not really, because cam can be faked as well. I guess not so many people know how to do that, but it doesn't hurt to be extra safe <_< .

All of you make good points one point has been left out. The biggest abuser or the fakes are the sites themselves trying to give the appearance of being well populated. This serves multiple purposes validates them for marketing sales to commercial interests like online clothing companies, two inorder to make the site worth a paying subscription. Taking the basic principal that all sites even government sites and college and universtiy sites except for maybe k-12 are designed in some way for profit. So, with this in mind remember that every site costs money to upkeep and the money must come from somewhere and there are so many sites like this one now that it is increasing hard to make a profit. Ergo All the startup sites, steal I.D. and pics and creat fakes to populate there sites then they man their sites with a few anonimous people to run those characters I will call them and any time someone says something about the site they act like another customer contesting that point. The probability is that this site is well over 50% of these type characters and even in the forums the people that say they are checking have up to 50% of their buddies are people with one pic that is questionable and have no profiling data. Who is going to bother to take the time to start this site and then just say I am not going to put any profile information on here. Not me and I think not any real living person outside of the site managers themselves. I am not bashing this site because the is a well known practice among all of these type sites all the gay and the straight. Not just real jock. Just something everybody should be aware of.

Undercover: Please define what it "faked" means in the context of a cam conversation.

    A really big, life-like puppet?

masculineone: You make a very good point, and I'm sure that that is a practice that is more widespread than many people think about.

However, a profile having one pic and no information implies that it was generated by the site to "pad" their membership.

Maybe I'm a cynic, but I honestly think a lot of people are just THAT STUPID. That is:

    1) They are JUST online to look for hot pix to jerk off to or people to "cyber" with
    2) They know that 99% of people on here simply will not even respond to someone with no pix at all.
    3) They don't take the internet "seriously" and so just don't give a shit
    4) So, they do the least possible amount of work to get people to respond to them.

I have no respect for people like that, and indeed a part of me has difficulty understanding how someone can work that way.

But I don't underestimate the number of people like that who are out there.

If it sounds to good to be true, it probarly is to good to be true and if i can't have any clearivication of some kind i asume it is fake.
But being in a relationship helps keeping the fakes away i found out

Wise up guys. Those with fake profiles couldn't give a rat's ass what you think of them. All your diagnostics and opinions are wasted words. Save your breath and spare the rest of us your ego.

It also depends what you are here for gregstevenstx.

If you are here for hookups then a lot of what you are saying is true.

I am here to make friends and pick the brains of people who are in better shape than me - and it is WORKING!

I look for guys who either have my body type or the body type I want, and I ask them questions. Everyone has been great.

There's this one guy slaton7 who has an amazing core (abs, etc.). He's a really, really nice guy (and I've seen him on cam, he's real - and by the way, this is odd, he's actually hotter on cam than he is in the pics - if that's possible). He gave me incredibly useful advice that is helping me strengthen my core, which I really needed.

There's another guy (who would kill me if I gave his s/n) who's given me some awesome advice regarding drills and stretches. He's an awesome guy and has been great to chat with.

There are tons of guys on here to chat with.

I would love to see a fake cam session. I'm thinking a blow up doll or CGI. Hmm, has possibilities.

Hey! Let's all have a fake cam party! Hand puppets! Stuffed animals, the whole thing! Who wants to join me?

I have a fake cam. Though it gives every appearance of being a web cam, it is actually just a pen holder with some sellotape on it. Ingenious, no?

Word! I was thinking of verifying my profile until I saw the ridiculous posturing.

It's not actually verifying your "profile" and certainly not your identity, in any case. It's verifying your appearance and there are other ways to do that. I prefer to do it on an individual basis for several reasons.

I have one basic rule of thumb that always seems to work: they have to have numerous candid photos. That means: not a bunch of modeling photos that could be lifted from a web site but everyday, run-of-the-mill photos. Yeah, and a profile with personality.

However, that said, it is true what others have pointed out that there are some great, attractive guys with no face pics or even no photos. On the other hand, these guys usually have cams because they're realistically aware that attractive guys are not going to want to talk to a faceless person.

Honestly, I really go by instinct much of the time. There have been people with lifted candid photos that I could tell were fake.

I think another that thing should be pointed out: almost all of the fakers I have had the displeasure of talking to stress the importance of honest connection. It's amazing (sad?) to me how many fakers discuss honesty and connection in an almost spiritual fashion - it reveals to me what they secretly want beneath the lies, i guess.
