Having last night told NBC there were "disconcerting" signs Britain was not ready to stage the Olympic Games, Mitt Romney today predicted a "very successful" London Olympics.

The two matters he cited to support his claim that there were signs Britain was not ready for the Games had already been resolved when he made his comments. A threatened strike by UK Border Agency staff, planned for today, was called off yesterday and a shortfall in private security staff was made up, in the last few weeks, by supplementing them with armed forces personnel, as per the contingency plan.

Clearly, Romney was attempting to sound knowledgeable for the benefit of his US audience, but then had to flip-flop in order to reflect the true state of planning for the Games.
