Another possible scandal could rock the already scandal plagued Roman Catholic Church. What else is newicon_question.gif

They'll let their bishops and priests fuck young boys, but they won't sell to gays?

    Typical...

Can the gay buyers sue for discrimination? Is there a law in Massachusetts that covers that? Or just sue for discrimination, period? Doesnt have to be cuz they are gay. Arent sellers legally required to sell to a bona fide buyer?

Well, it is a violation of the state's anti-discrimination laws, but I think the broker can also be in trouble considering they passed along what they couple planned on doing with the place. So unless they felt bad about that an intentionally left that blurb in the e-mail back to the client... yeah.

Yes, that is definitely illegal - you can't discriminate in Massachusetts in employment, housing, public accommodations, etc.

    Are religious institutions exempt?

To bad the NCAA can't fine them like they did Penn State! The Chief Pedophile(Pope) would have had to end his crusade against gays than.

I'm not too terribly familiar with Massachusetts law, but I know federal law actually does not have any clauses that list "sexual orientation" as a protected class.

So... it would have to be on a state level for any action. And that is if they do list it as a "protected class".

It probably shouldn't surprise you that in Massachusetts, yes, discriminating based on one's sexual orientation is a legal no-no.

They're lucky this didn't happen in Boston, what with the Mayor recently declaring a war on Chick-fil-A for their anti-homosexual mission statements.

Regrettably, hypocrisy, dishonesty, and Machiavellianism are not uncommon in churches, especially those churches which try to convince their followers that they are infallible. When people, including church officials, make mistakes, they should be quick to admit it, apologize, make amends, and take steps to prevent a recurrence. If they did that, they would win respect. By denying mistakes and wrong-doing, they lose respect when people discover the truth, and they eventually will discover the truth.

I hope that the gay couple sues for as much as they can get. The Roman Church will not reform itself until it is forced to do so, perhaps by forcing it into bankruptcy and exposing wrong doing for a few decades. It would surely help if members of that church withheld funds until reform occurs.

Any real estate people here from Massachusetts?

If there are anti-discrimination laws in place these assholes can be sued
If NOT people need to get on the air and say SEE... this IS WHY WE NEED CIVIL RIGHTS FOR GAYS

Rome has declared all out war on homosexuality, and they getting their battle plans from the Pope down. They are following the same path they have in the past.
The church has so many very intelligent people in it, but it cannot see where they are making the same mistakes.
Pope John Paul II asked for forgiveness for all of their past transgressions. Hopefully, they will see their own mistakes before they go too far...again.

I would presume Massachusetts has anti-discrimination laws covering such a situation. If so, I hope the guys sue to the fullest extent of the law and make the r.c. church pay for their failings.
