That was a great show ! Shame it was so short though.

Beautiful Killer/Die Another Day was a great surprise and her cover of Je T'aime Moi Non Plus was really theatrical.

She looked hawt in that Burberry trench !

I wish this was the version of Candy Shop that was originally released. Way sexier than the original. Beautiful Killer mixed with Die Another Day is perfect!

The 'Reinvention' of Open Your Heart is god awful.

    Agreed with all three assessments!

I don't know why folks boo'ed and got angry at the 45 min show. What did they expect? She'd come on at 11pm and do a show until 1am? She's always done a selection of songs at these types of venues.

She should have done the acoustic Love Spent she has been rehearsing, but Beautiful Killer was a nice surprise.

She could have performed it if she'd shut the hell up and cut that long ass sermon.

I loved her 'Basic Instinct' moment during Beautiful Killer icon_biggrin.gif She's kinda obsessed with sex + death at the minute, very cool.

I get why some of the fans were disappointed but they over reacted big time. PLUS there were supporters of Marine La Pen in the audience. They brought in pre printed signs dissing Madonna. Fucking idiots.

Yeah I'll be happier when she gets over this gun/anger/death phase. She can't even appear to shoot one realistically ;)

Back to the spiritual & woe-is-me stuff like Ray Of Light, please icon_smile.gif

Considering the hot piece she's dating right now I don't think that album will be coming anytime soon icon_wink.gif

OH, GOD! NO! I love ROL. The album made me the uber fan I am today but I don't want her to get all spiritual and preachy again. I think MDNA is a solid pop album but without the tv interviews or promotion, the rush to just go on tour, and releasing the weakest songs on the album is what did this era in. It's been rough being a Madonna fan since Hard Candy. So many missed opportunities.

I like preachy Madonna, as long as the musical arrangements are good. American Life & Music are probably my favorite albums....but it varies ;)

MDNA is indeed a solid pop album. I'm still majorly perplexed that GMAYL and Girl Gone Wild were the initial singles, but as much as I think the songs are mediocre, they are infectious, catchy, and I find myself humming the tunes from time to time. That's what makes me think "ok so she knew the songs for a while and that they were catchy / radio-friendly, so she decided to go with these". The lyrics are just so terrible, though. I think Girl Gone Wild sounds better live actually....

Anyway, like others, I'm pissed Some Girls and Superstar (and Love Spent) didn't make the tour, but hey, I'm not going to refund my ticket because of it. You are right that ever since the Superbowl and album release the rush to tour sort of distracted us from really appreciating the album, getting her thoughts on the themes, seeing some tv performances etc that she's done in the past to build up the hype (the Hung Up promo and leadup to Confessions was VERY well done). Touring is where the money is these days, though, so who can blame her?

I really enjoyed Hard Candy when everyone was giving it crap and missing Confessions. The Devil Wouldn't Recognise You is probably one of her best songs ever (and the single gem on the album that stands out for me - much like Nothing Fails, Easy Ride, Falling Free, The Power of Goodbye, Secret Garden from each other album, for example). This whole "Madonna needs to act her age" thing has to stop - especially from gay men. We're told to be ourselves, yet when Madonna does it, she's trashy? icon_rolleyes.gif

I completely agree but still really can't stand GGW haha. It's just so generic to me.

I saw her in concert last week and a lot of the tracks from the new album translate really well live.

GGW is one of those songs, it's a really epic opening and had the whole arena singing along to the chorus. Also Turn Up The Radio got everyone jumping up and down just like ROL during her last tour.

Love Spent should have been added to the set list. My main criticism of the tour is that there aren't enough ballads and adding it would have rectified that problem. She's rehearsed it a few times so it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to include it.

The Offer Nissim remix only just makes it bearable for me. The 'baby' voice is irritating. Reminds me of Bedtime Stories which I loathe. icon_cool.gif

whateveryo - she does need some ballad moments. Even the Confessions Tour was virtually non-stop dance but had the epic Live To Tell, Drowned World moments (both of which were beautiful). With all of this religious imagery, this tour SCREAMS the addition of 'Oh Father'; I'm miffed that wasn't included. I'd really like to hear Promise To Try live one day too icon_smile.gif

I think she realizes how hard Love Spent is to sing live in that Denmark rehearsal and I don't think it will see the light of day. She still has a good ballad voice but she shouts it too much these days - look at Je t'aime from the Paris show...she sounded reasonable but if she did an acoustic small show she could really use her 'pretty' voice and not have to roll around the stage so much.

~edit: as a total aside, I think "Frankly if my name was Benjamin" in Love Spent is one of her best lyrics ever!

I honeslty love the way she sang Je t'aime! I would love Promise To Try. It's one of my favorite songs and for it's content matter, it would be such a powerful moment on stage. The other ballad I'm really hoping and dreaming for would be Take A Bow. Why she continues to ignore her longest running hit in America still baffles me.

    - I love the Benjamin line too haha! So many hate it. Ugh. It would've made such an epic video.

This is the reason why. She has difficulty singing it live. Just like Power Of Goodbye from ROL icon_lol.gif

Take A Bow at the AMA's in '95 sounded EXCELLENT. The naysayers will always say she sounds shit live, but when she belted that out I thought it was great. We'd be very lucky to see that live but stranger things have happened (who would have thought we'd get Burning Up, Borderline or Dress You Up 25 years later?)

I've haven't read about people hating the Benjamin/Frankly line! How could you? So clever and quirky.

She seems to have worked out her mother demons these days. How about this for a nice live ballad medley:

    - Promise To Try
    - Mer Girl / Mother & Father
    - Inside of Me
    - Little Star

The full, poignant Promise To Try segues into an eerie Mer Girl with Mother & Father samples. The sorrow turns to hope with Inside Of Me, with Little Star shifting the focus from her own mother to her daughter, in which her mother lives on.

What about "This Used to be my Playground" and "I'll Remember?"

I would LOVE to hear TUTBMP live. It's one her best ballads and would probably sound better now with her trained voice. Apparently she's not very fond of the track though, finds it too 'sentimental' or something icon_rolleyes.gif

I think as she gets older she will perform more ballads ala Dietrich live.
