I've lost about 75 pounds now, and today I think I have excess skin from the weight loss. Is there any way to tighten this up? Do I have to do more abs? Or is it just fat.

My whole family tells me that it's just excess skin and I think It's fat.

Congratulations on your weight loss! Keep up the good work!
You're 18 y.o.- just keep taking proper care of yourself (exercise and appropriate diet) and whatever you're talking about here will disappear soon enough.

The excess skin as in the skin that is left behind after major weight loss.

    And thanks!

I lost 70 lbs with no extra skin or stretch marks.

My secret? It took 1.5 years to lose all 70 lbs, so my skin had time to renew and tighten as I slowly progressed.

In other words, your skin will eventually tighten up again, but it'll take a year or so. This is what happens with fast weight loss. icon_wink.gif

Make sure you keep up the fitness program. Your progress is amazing. Just take it a little slower so your body has time to catch up. Before long you'll be ripped. icon_biggrin.gif

I once lost 60lbs in 5 months and didn't have a pinch of loose skin anywhere. I credit swimming for that.

Last time I did that (late 1990's) I had loose skin everywhere...had to stop working out and fill out some before continuing. Then I started flight school and never continued till three years ago. By then I was 70 lbs overweight. icon_lol.gif

You may be lucky, and have reversed your high weight value soon enough that your skin will just reform around your new bod. Genetics do have some part in that though. Some people's skin is just more elastic than others, and that can either help or hinder their appearance after weight loss.

If in doubt, ask your Doctor. If you are genetically unfortunate, or have lost a lot of weight in a short time, your only other option may be surgery to remove the extra skin.

I've known a couple guys who had that done. One still looks amazing, but has a huge scar all the way around his lower torso. He said the worst part is the pain of healing for 2-3 months. Actually both of them said that. The other one is my boss. I'm not allowed to say he looks amazing even if it were true. icon_lol.gif

I guess people don't lie when they say your body has to catch up to you.
