Friends and "Social" Drugs..

was a bit apprehensive bout posting as I believe anyone should be free to do whatever so long as not hurting anyone else (case being).

.. but I find myself seeking new friends as c-ke and m-lly used to be the addition to the night, but seems to have become well.. majority of the night.

understand it's prevalent in the scene, and my friends are by no means "junkies", as they're all professionals (ie top 10 MBA/phD programs, etc, with good jobs, which probly means little)... but the aforementioned treats are like cans of beer nowadays since it seems to be everywhere in every apartment/birthday/promotion/leaving-town/coming-back to town party.. and if you pass you're looked at like you have 2 heads..

maybe im just an old soul slash lesbo at heart?

There's a Korean saying, "If you wanna know a man, know his friends."

In other words, you are who you identify with. Perhaps you should seek a little truth and figure out why you are using the drugs.

yes heard the korean quote in different variations and find it to be true..

i don't use, and it's weird how i'm looked at with 3 heads for preferring not to.. it seems everyone does now socially, even the ones you'd never suspect, especially in the past couple years..

I know it is around me but I've never gotten into it and nor do the people I hang with. All depends on who you hang with. I'd pass on it as well. I work hard at the gym and count calories on a daily basis so there isn't any reason why I should go that route to crap all my hard work away.

At 26, you're a little too old to be blaming your drug use on peer pressure. If someone's looking at you like you have three heads, it's not because you are sober, it's because they are high as hell, and you need to ignore them.

I hate to say this but the way you write tells me you take drugs (hard to follow). I have a friend that I've been helping keep off meth. He has been free of it for a year. But he used to write and talk like you. I would try to clean up and stay away from the drugs. It will ruin your life.

    Your friends are not junkies...yet.
    You are not a junkie...yet.
    You haven't been to jail...yet.
    You haven't been institutionalized...yet.
    You haven't died...yet.

There is still time to turn around and walk back up the path you came.
Or, you can keep going and watch what is "yet" become reality.
    It's always your choice.

I had a boyfriend who ran with a pack of friends who did lots of drugs. I never really understood why he found these people so appealing. They could never have a sensible conversation, laughed uncontrollably at the stupidest shit, and had the dumbest fights with each other. Talk about drama! Some of them were doctors and dentists and bankers, but they were insufferable.

One of the reasons I dumped that boyfriend was because he couldn't seem to see that, and his allegiance to them won out over wanting a healthy relationship with me. After a while, some of his friends lost their jobs due to drugs, and now some of them look 20 years older than they should, the result of too much chemical damage and too little sleep. But all the while, they thought they were fabulous.

So yes: your friends do define you, and sometimes they are unhealthy and can limit your personal growth. Choose them wisely.

With the harder stuff at some point the person isn't in control anymore. The drug is in control no matter how adamantly the person insists that they aren't an addict and they are in control and can stop anytime. Usually by the time they realize that they aren't in control anymore it is too late.

I'm finding the majority of the young gays I meet who have it "made" (well off career) use recreational drugs frequently be it weed or pills.

I don't see anything wrong with limited enjoyment at a safe setting like a house party you won't be driving home from in a a few hours.

Maybe you've just grown out of it. You were lucky enough to not get addicted, and now it's just old news. It's like when you first start drinking, it's cool for a while, but then you get over it.

Normally I find people don't justify addictive use with the idea that they are in control, but because they don't think it's a big deal. I think that's where the idea of hitting rock bottom comes from, because they don't think it's having that much of an effect on their lives until they're living in a dumpster and begging for money on the street.

yes, this is what im finding even when meeting other people, NYC particularly.

not sure if it's a west side/Manhattan thing, as usage in other locales seem much different, born from "wanting to get away from the real world," where as in NY it's moreso to get in step with it, if that makes sense since it's so prevalent especially amongst young gay hedgefund/big consulting/accounting/corp-law types, despite never being able to tell..

maybe comes from all the pills (adderrall/etc) used in ivy schools to get thru tests/stay awake that just naturally progressed to social functions?

Well, I'm feeling pretty old now. Am I the only one that had to read this 10 times to figure out what 'c-ke and m-lly' are? I got the first one but still have no idea what the second is.

Wow, I guess I'm not hanging in the scene enough! Oh well, I don't view drugs as social or recreational anyway.

Molly is a fairly recent club name for Ecstasy. I'd never heard the term before until last year when my brother texted me in the middle of the night to say "I'm hanging out with Molly!!" I was like, that's nice. Who the fuck is Molly?

It's short for molecular MDNA, which is supposed to be a purer form of Ecstasy. But all the drug lore is bullshit.

I didn't get it either, I had to look it up on google. Apparently it is called Molly, which is some sort of fertilizer, and also in bath salts... it's active ingredient is mephedrone and has similar effects to ecstasy.

It's all nasty in my view.

Omg lol that is not Molly at all. Molly is pure MDMA. Not mephedrone. It is the main ingredient in ecstasy that makes ecstasy what it is without the rest of the crap/impurities/fillers they add into it like meth, caffeine, amphetamines, ketamine, mda, etc.

It's all fun until someone at a party tries to convince you to stick your finger into a plate full of crystal meth, and then to stick that meth-coated finger up someone's butt and give it a twist. icon_eek.gif

And just think, that was 30sec of your life typing this to let us know that you won't tolerate sub-standard English postings that you'll never get back.

And every second counts as Death's Cold Hands creep ever closer to you, amirite?

Yeah... of the people around you are doing coke and eX for recreation on weekends then you're probably hanging with the wrong people. icon_confused.gif

Also, had no idea what you were referencing until someone elaborated. Drug street names these days are crazy, haha.
