Have you turned into your online persona?

Generally, has anyone actually become the better (or worse) selves they present to the world online?

Specifically, do any members get a lot of tail because they pretend to online? The amount of hot muscle bottoms that one member claims to plow, for example, has always struck me as highly implausible, yet I can't help but wonder - does lying about it attract it?

Reading various opinions I've widened my views on some topics especially ones that I do not have any experience in e.g. open relationships. And hence become a lot less quicker to judge or come to a conclusion.

MusculineVGLBB saidI feel you have created this thread especially for me. Ive noticed in my life that I have become more caring, reserved and observant since my first tint on RealJock. I really used to be an obnoxious brat years ago. Ive made a complete 180 in my life now. OH and Ive lost a ton of weight. So yes my online persona has slipped into my life.

Why would you think he's talking about you, when he says he's talking about a guy who claims to plow myriad hot muscle bottoms? LOL, I must be missing something....

As for my answer, I'm the same in real life, only no one listens in real life, so I'm usually just thinking the things I might otherwise be able to post here..... not that I can count on anyone READING what I post, LOL.

I've read numerous posts where people ask what the point of posting is, since the threads get repetitive. My answer is, you get out of it what you put into it, meaning you can use it as a tool to shape who you are, but you're wasting your time if you're trying to shape who other people are.

I don't think so. My online persona is a reflection of what goes on in my head. In other words, I type the thoughts I have in my head when I'm online, but in real life, I'd probably just think it and not say it out loud.

As far as the getting tail part, that's a hopeless cause for me.

So much more comfortable in my own skin, some how more cockier, just knowing RJ guys have my back, in a strange way and I'm not alone.

LOL I like how I know who you're talking about... you think he's making all of that up though?!

I don't have an online persona... what you see/read on here is what I'm like in person - always have been icon_biggrin.gif

I'm pretty much the same online as I am in real life.

The only difference here is that I'm more reactive but I will say posting on this website has really taught me the value of actual conversation versus posting on a board.

So much gets lost without body language/tone to go with it so I've had to become more savvy about what I post online.

Says the guy whose picture shows him flipping us all off.

I am in real life just as cranky and exasperating as you see here.

lolll ya whateveryo, what's up with flipping us all off? icon_razz.gif

Lol I actually upped da middle finger in that picture because I was naked and displaying a body that is not in line with this websites 'aesthetic'.

It's a fuck you to 'body nazis' icon_lol.gif

How I present myself online is not who I am in person. It's not a better/worse paradigm either. But the behavior is not the same.

My online persona pretty much is my personality once you really get to know me beyond an acquaintance level (or else you will only see the very surface, conventional layers)

Sometimes serious, humorous, un/emotional, pleasant, harsh, distant, intimate, irreverent, honest, hyperbolic, hyper, sedentary- the whole gamut. Layered.

How we are online is how we are generally want to see ourselves in our minds, I believe.

I'm pretty much a "what you see is what you get" kind of guy. I don't get personas, or pretense.

MuchoMasQueMusculo saidOh and as far as the inflammatory bickering that we all get caught up in every now and then:

No one tends to do that to my face in person so people are typically nice to me and I am glad to return the same treatment.

I could imagine so hahaha I remember your old pics and from the looks of it, you could strangle someone with your bare hands icon_confused.gif but your personality is pretty laid back from what I've seen...

I'm more or less the same here as I am IRL, though I'll admit that I'm often an unreliable judge of my own behavior.

    Thanks, bud. icon_smile.gif

I only turn into a raging cunt when some of the heifers around here get so out of control. But honestly I really wanna get along. My horns come out when provoked.

I know what you mean....my online motto is "don't say online what you wouldn't say in person because it just might come back to bite you in the ass" lol

The difference between my online & RL personas is feeling like I have an equal voice online. I'm quiet and mumbly and fully focused on my self-consciousness. That's not a problem online.

In situations where I feel intimidated and I'm overthinking everything, I will sometimes remind myself how much I have to say online, and if this situation were a forum I'd GET IN THERE and get involved.

So the online persona is useful as a reminder that I can be social and I do have more personality than a lot of people I speak to. If I can handle RJ just fine, then the polite people I meet are cake.

I don't think that ANYONE actually behaves like that in real life. At least not people who I run across.

I'm pretty much the same online as in real life. Perhaps a bit more guarded about some things online, but also oddly more open about others. Anyway, if you met me in real life, you'd recognize me as basically the same person.

I actually try to keep my online personality pretty much in line with me. Because I aspire to be authentic.

I probably turn down a lot more tail in real life than I pursue, I have pretty high standards (not just physical, but looking for the right personality).

I don't get a lot of hits from RJ, but I get a lot from other gay sites.
