One thing I can't stand is seeing a bench or machine empty for 10 minutes with no belongings by it (i.e., towel, water bottle) and I approach the bench or machine to use it, and someone runs over from 20 feet away who was talking to their buddy and announces that, "sorry, but I'm using that." Really?

People who don't put their weights away in the proper place once they're done. This is especially irritating if the people not cleaning after themselves are the ones you see every day.

At least they're trying. Isn't that somewhat inspirational? We were all there once. You have to start somewhere.

People that don't put away their equipment, or those that treat it as a social club.

I don't have too many gripes, but one that is a little irritating are those guys who come into the locker room from the pool and there is water everywhere.
I've had to get the stuff out of my locker and move to a totally different area of the locker room because they didn't wipe up the floor with an old towel (which are available).

Or, they're bluetoothing on the cardio equipment or their best BFF is on the adjacent machine.

Why can't I suffer in silence?

No real beefs with guys at my gyms, because almost every guy there is seriously into his routine and focused on working - hard. If I had a beef, it would be the occasional guy who isn't working very hard, and is staring at me - thinking I don't see him. This doesn't happen very often, but when I see it, I recognize it. This can happen in the gym or showers. They haven't got the guts to speak, but they stare anyway. Again - no real problem, but it is kind of weird when it happens.

I agree with many of the previous posters. The people who overuse equipment, don't put equipment up, don't properly 'reserve equipment, etc are annoying.

I think the one that drives me bonkers the most is the dumbbell racks. The guys that park themselves right next to the dumbbell racks not allowing anyone to have access to the weights in front of them. I never like to be rude and walk in front of a guy watching a mirror to keep to form . You don't need to be that close to have mirror access. Denying others access to dumbells is rude.

I have it when roid heads give really bad advice to other. Just because their body can take the abuse, it doesn't mean that they should injure others in the long run.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of advice?

One thing that really annoyed me once was a guy came up to me to ask if I was almost done with the squat rack, when there was clearly an unoccupied one 1 yard to the right of me. Ugh.

This and people who come to the gym and barely work out - they just sit on a piece of equipment for an hour talking on the phone. I'm sure they're telling the person on the other end that they're working out.

My biggest peeve at the gym is the typical group of 3-5 guys who always work out together and spend 15 plus minutes on one piece of equipment. Typically, they are talking to each other, flexing in the mirrors, or on their phones while only one is lifting.

I don't like it when guys make a snake-like "ssssssssss" sound when their lifting. It cannot possibly serve a purpose.

    1. Most gyms having way too many useless leg machines; leg press, prone hamstring curls, adductor machines, abductor machines etc and not enough squat racks and cages!!
    2. People who use squat racks for doing bicep curls, shoulder presses and different exercises that don't require a squat rack!!

There was this guy texting (or grinding for all I know) on his phone for over a half hour while "using" one set of cable crossovers. He left to get a drink at one point and I moved in. ;) And he came back looking irked. Haha. But he hadn't done a SINGLE set for that full half hour or so. Just texting away.
