So I was just watching the cycling races on the olympics... and it made me curious, how does someone get invovled with competitive cycling? Do you have to be on a team... sponsored...? I think it would be fun to try some real beginner-type races just to give me something fun to work towards.

Well I don't do it, but I think there are usually state and regional clubs who may be affiliated with the USCF.

You can probably locate your local racers by looking for the bike shop where everybody seems to be working on their own bikes and nobody has time to actually talk to customers.

The guys I know who have raced started really, really young.

Hey Jase,

I'm of the opinion that you're only too late to start when you're dead! So get out there!

To find some real, beginner type races, try www.active.com. They do a good job of covering local events. Even our Tour de Palm Springs out here every year in February!

I'm sure you'll be able to find something reasonably local. See you on the roads!
