Saying "free antivirus" would make it seem like this is about free versions of programs.. tricky wording.

Anyway! This week at Newegg, they have a deal where you buy a full antivirus software and can get the entire price rebated back via a mail-in-rebate.

Mail-in-rebates are shady with some companies. You can do everything right, but they will claim you didn't, and it sometimes takes some follow-up nagging. Other times you're lucky and they process it without a hitch. The risk is yours; I just wanted to tip you all with a potentially awesome deal.

There are NINE brands to choose from. wut.

This. Microsoft Security Essentials is way less intrusive in terms of system resources, maintenance, cost, and pop-ups than its competitors (Avira, AVG, vast, etc) and just as effective if not more so.

One of the few (only?) recent examples of a Microsoft product destroying the competition.
