Born and raised in Texas. As soon as next May rolls around I am gonna head westward to the Golden State. Going to bring my Southern Accent and my Texan pride with me. Need to learn to recycle and make sure I actually have jackets. Who drinks Water without Ice, The classy Californians do.

Anyone else made a drastic change when it comes to culture? Texas is worlds different than the great California.

I lived in Turkey for half a year. Talk about a change of culture ^^ Also have lived in Canada for half a year but that was reasonably close to the Dutch culture so wasnt as shocked as I was when I stayed in Turkey icon_razz.gif

Southern Accents are welcomed, but don't talk slow or you'll always be interrupted mid-sentence. icon_wink.gif

I moved from Florida to California 9 months ago....

you'll fit in fine. A lot of people in California are transplants from elsewhere anyway.

Much like Florida was....and Texas is becoming.

You'll ADORE the weather compared to Texas. Good luck

Where are you moving to? Los Angeles is mostly immigrants from all over the world. Natives have moved out to the suburbs and beaches. Not many from Texas here I think though.

Well, the Cali boys will rejoice in May, that's for sure.

I'm glad I made the move to Cali in 2005. The culture was just so comfortable to me. Not sure why but it just felt right. I lived on the east coast (DE/NJ/PA/MD) for 35 years and California was such a refreshing change of pace. AZ is very similar, which is why I love it here as well.

Good luck with your move! If you're driving and you're passing through Phoenix, let us know and we'll get a group of us RJers together to meet up with you.

From South Texas here. I didn't find the adjustment too bad. Not so many "the higher the hair, the closer to God" out here. Just realize when you order iced tea in WeHo it's going to be fruit flavored...

Yes, we WILL rejoice in May icon_smile.gif

Welcome, and you need to start by saying and learning - 'Dude' that is our word...hahahaicon_biggrin.gificon_lol.gif Depending on where you land - California has a lot to offer, but S. California is very different that N. California. I moved from Florida in 1998 to S. California lived there for about 10 years and then moved to N. California for another job. Both areas have there pluses and minuses, but overall I can not go back to the East Coast...tried it for 6-months and said I need to go back..so once you go West young man you can never go back...lol

The pace is quite different from the East Coast and even Mid-west - pace yourself. People tend to think that we are extremely laid back and we do not work hard...quite the contrary is just a different perspective of how we look at things.

Overall I think you are making a great choice...where else can you go skiing and then go to the beach on the same dayicon_biggrin.gif

I lived in the northern part of Canada where the moose walked the streets and the gaybashers weren't far behind. I live in the city with the biggest gay pride party on the planet now.

    Happiness is worth moving for.

I lived in Temecula for awhile, they sure are not very welcoming of outsiders, especially if you don't make enough money hah

    Looking at Southern Cali.

Not into weed haha or doing Sean Cody. Looking to actually be able to enjoy being outdoors without dying of a heat stroke. The mountains and the ocean and all the amenities those 2 offer attract me the most, along with 70 degree weather.

After my short vacation there this past June I can definitely say I have Cali fever as well. I miss the people, the weather, the openness of it all!

It is a change from what I am use to being a typical southerner where guys are masculine and generally overweight and getting plastic bags with your groceries, there (at least in LA) it's all paper. Also if you have manners and politeness it will stick out amongst some people there and leave a very good impression with some of the more cold people who live there. Just stay classy and nice and you'll do fine.

Best of luck to you man!
