yeah ive gotten terrile sore throats that last 2 weeks and hit 104 all the time about 4 times a year since i was 17.

Strep or mononucleosis probably. Antibiotics for the strep but you'll have to tough it out if it's mono and just take Vicoden 3x a day so you can swallow food.
My sympathies to the OP. I wasn't aware they were still doing tonsillectomies. I figured they were just treating these issues w/antibiotics(?). I still have my tonsils and buddies 10+ years older the same. I did have mono 3 years ago (for the 1st time ever) and it was wincingly painful to just swallow my saliva (TMI, I know). I survived on yogurt over 2 weeks and lost 14 lbs. Cottage cheese and apple sauce were to rough on me. Couldn't even get any comfort from a cold beer. Just ice water. Mono can also come back for a visits from time to time although I have been lucky and not had any further issues.
A general info health note - a 2ndary (2nd stage) syphilis infection can spark flue like symptoms in it's resurgent progression. Happily I do not know that from personal experience but witnessed it nursing a buddy through it. Bottom line on that one is stay out of Bulgarian bath houses. -

Things will be rough for a few days, but you will make it. Glad to see that you are feeling well enough to get on line and that they gave you some good drugs. If anything happens that you don't understand, just ask the medical folks.
