now yea, I am in South Carolina (so this will make sense)....but its been a bit disappointing to see how many ppl on my fbook home feed are having statuses just mocking the whole ChicFilA thing (mocking gay ppl).

I guess a lot of ppl lack the empathy to understand that its not a situation where its 1 team vs another or some crap. Its about a guy whos beyond JUST opposing same sex marriage...this guy doesnt like gays altogether.

    Grrr buncha lames icon_mad.gif

I feel like online people really voice how they're truly feeling.... and the truth is a lot of people out there still vehemently oppose homosexuality.... despite all the openess we are seeing on TV and in the news, there is a quiet majority? (minority?) that oppose it.....

It's pathetic to see how ignorant people still remain. I am by no means a human rights activist, but I have common sense and realize as a human-being...other human beings need to live and be happy... Or, in other words, let people do what they want with theirown lives, so long as it's not impeding or hurting others.... why are people so hell-bent on telling how other's can live their lives?

I'm actually not concerned that he doesn't like gays.

I also think he has the right to do what he wants with his money.

The issue is that he can't do what he wants and not expect others to do what they want. Namely, to boycott or take action against him and his company. I don't promote anything illegal, just counter measures that remain within the law.

I know some will say that it's because he is using company money rather than personal money.

For me it would make no difference. I would not support a business owner that is using his funds to lobby against civil rights.

I hear you. I'm preventing myself from arguing with the crazies on FB today. Half of me wants to hit the unfriend button on a few people, but the other half is kind of fascinated by the drama.

Here's one of the worst posts on my home feed this morning:

"The Bible is very clear. Homosexuality is a sin. If you don't give your heart and life to Jesus Christ, you WILL spend eternity in Hell. Today is the day of Salvation!

Romans 26. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is AGAINST nature. 27..And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28..And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient..."

Whenever people start quoting the Bible, I get a sick feeling in my stomach.

My response to this verse is that it's only "against nature" when straight people engage in gay sex, and vice versa. Homos aren't defective heteros.

    Just venting...

Personally, if a friend of mine made some of the types of post that are being presented, I would have to try and have a civil discussion with them.

It provides the perfect opening to try and change people's views. It will certainly help you ascertain who is hopeless and not worth continuing a friendship with.

The most important thing is to keep it clean and fact based if you are opening a discussion. Don't let them pull you into the mud with them. That is their tactic to move away from the original argument.

By the way, I do understand how hurtful it can be to see these messages. It's a shame people feel the need to post stuff they would not say to others in person. They forget they are not just speaking to one or two individuals.

It's kind of disheartening to see some of the posts. The one that bothered me the most was by a gay guy. Making a mockery out of this situation just shows how intolerant people are. It makes me question these friendships.

I haven't seen any posts like that - in fact, my status update was, "If you eat at Chick-fil-A today - especially - please delete me as a friend, Facebook and otherwise. Thanks."

Let's get this perfectly clear on this "Day of Appreciation", it's not that Dan Cathy has a religious anti-gay bias and opinion. It's that Chick-fil-A, as a company, has donated an estimated $10 million to anti-gay hate groups and extremist organizations to actively prevent gay rights and marriage equality. Cluck you for that, Chick-fil-A and your Chick-fil-Ahole supporters!

Wow, what sort of "friends" do you people have of Facebook? Then one of you dolts said something to the effect, "I'm actually thinking of de-friending some of these people..." Really? Finally? Why wait?

Look a peddler of shitty chicken can say and think bad things about gay people, I could care less and the idiots and obese pigs who choose to eat the crappy chicken can do as they please, but your "friends" joining in the attack and all you can muster is "I might de-friend them" might be the biggest pussy remark of all time.

How about quoting Archie Comics on how to be good friends to gay people and remind them, Archie Comics, like the Bible, is just a fucking book. Better yet, remind these "friends" that hate and bigotry is hardly ever pretty, nor is obesity and high blood pressure.

I've seen that too, but I'm not on Facebook. I see that happening right here on RealJock.

A lot of the self-deprecating comments are due to fear, a lack of self worth and the need to feel accepted by their peers. LGBT's like these are fueling hate.

When you see posts like, "I'm a fag, and I love Chic-fil-A now more than ever", you know we're doing our community and ourselves a disservice.

We are only against intolerance and Hate. If I had 2 million dollars to spend I'd put it towards Marriage Equality. Not "GAY MARRIAGE" but Marriage for who want to be married.
Actually I just want human equality until you prove you don't deserve it. You hurt someone, rob someone, ect. You loose your equality.

You can always quote verses to bring up the things they are doing wrong according to the Bible. And there are many of them.

Chick-fil-A also sponsors a couples retreat for their employees, both married and unwed. Gay couples are not allowed to attend the retreats. So much for the line we keep seeing here and elsewhere that they don't discriminate against their glbt employees.

I can just about handle all the "Obama is a crazy socialist" things on my wall, but at some point you would think they could turn off Fox News and do some real research.
I don't know why we moved here.

Eat more chicken?? I say eat more... haha

Ok one girl just posted this

"It's not about the fried chicken, it's about freedom of speech."

Yes, you bigoted bitch it is about freedom of speech. Just not in the way you think, the owner didn't just say he doesn't support gay marriage, he pays money to make sure it never happens. You can say what you want, that's freedom of speech.. but when it interferes in someone else's right to marry its another ball game.

I'm not even a US citizen and I know more about the first amendment than you, now go suck on your std infested boyfriend's cock

Of course I didn't post that, but that's what I want to reply lol

She has the freedom to say whatever she wants, as does the CEO of Chikfila.

The first amendment protects unpopular speech. That is why it's there.

The moment a company funds anti-gay groups they are valid targets for boycotts and harsh backlash. Free speech etc...is all valid until they spend such vast amount of money trying to deny rights to gay couples.
