You see them in the club, eyes darting, twitching, teeth chattering or grinding, sweating. They seem somewhat aware, but something is still clearly off.

    They're on meth.

Meth use is EXTREMELY prevalent in the gay community, at least it is around here. I know plenty of people who have tried it (I haven't), and someone who worked at the bar I used to work at died a few days ago due to a meth overdose. Crying, or saying "I should've done something" won't raise the dead. This is why action needs to be taken now, as soon as the problem is identified.

Meth is a highly (pun not intended) addictive substance. People who use it often skip meals and engage in self-injury while high due to subcutaneous sensations they believe are parasites crawling inside them.

People who are looking for any of the below terms on Grindr or the like are tweakers (meth users) and want to hook up while on meth. As the first image in this thread indicates, people who are tweaking are much less likely to engage in safer sex.

    ParTy (capital t)
    Tina
    PnP (ParTy n Play)
    Crystal
Buzzing (not to be confused with buzzed)
    Ice
    Crank
    Getting "Wired"

The problem is widespread, yet little is done since a lot of gays have grown used to seeing it and have begrudgingly accepted its presence and prevalence. When friends should be having interventions for those they know are users, instead they turn a blind eye. I saw this at the bar I worked at. The policy was to post information about STI testing and encouraging tweakers to drink water. There were few recovery resources; the attitude seemed to be "you're gonna do it, just don't fuck yourself up too badly." Tweakers were simply removed from the premises, which does nothing to solve the epidemic of crystal use.

The attitude of the gay community on this drug needs to change ASAP. Instead of being a "kinky sex enhancer that's better than poppers" as many view it, it should be seen as the damaging substance it is. Deaths like the one mentioned earlier serve as warnings that will likely fall on the deaf ears of those already addicted. The only way to truly make any headway in curbing meth use is to work together as a community and get addicts the help they need.

We should start here on RJ.
this part had to be cut out because admin is a filthy cunt
If you know of any RJers who use meth, be proactive and message them about it. Make sure they know you are on their side and will help them through whatever it takes to get them clean.

If you know of any non-RJers using it, get them help. Be a listening ear or a shoulder for them to lean on. Meth may seem like an escape to some, but its consequences are far-reaching.

Hopefully this post has inspired SOMEONE, ANYONE to action.

That said, I'm out. I have other endeavors to focus on.

I leave you with my favorite song in the entire fucking world. The message is really relevant: drugs are an escape you can't escape. Don't hide from your problems with substances. They will only make your situation worse.

    Lyrics:

    I’m watching genesis in flames
    Nothing still remains
A writhing phoenix starving for his fire screams in vain
This revelation, don’t know who is to blame
    I fell into my haze
How can I ever learn to live without you
And find you in this maze

That’s when I ate forbidden fruit
    Much cooler than the lord
Look at the walls I climb (please come down)
Suddenly she merges on my route (exit here)
    Broken lines to explore (Marco…)
    No victim, there’s no crime (lies… lies…)
Kill me baby one more time

    Run away, run away, I’ll
    Turn to salt and defile
    Those hungry eyes
    I will obey
    Say goodbye, say goodbye, I
    Can’t deny I know I
    Might take your life away

    Merciless sister undertakes
    A mission now to save
Me from this fire that I’m (I’ve failed you)
Burning in this water for my aches (stop the pain)
I’m living in my cave (come home)
And it feels so sublime (why, why…)
Kill me baby one more time

    Run away…

    And now I'm discontent
    Feeling only winter
    Open wounds a monument
    As the memories splinter
    Fragments of moments
On the table is a letter
And I know it's where she told me
    Leaving would be better
    I'm not sure
Was she the salt of pain in my vein
Or would she cure it all if she would just only remain
I've fallen down, knocked flat by the signs
    Like cardiogram lines
And only one last phrase stays on my mind
Kill me baby one more time
    (Run away, run away, I'll)
Kill me baby one more time

    Run away…
    Run away, run away, run
Angels said now I’ve gone numb (gone numb)
    Run away, run away, run
Don’t look back, cause we’re now done
    Time to lose and forget
    Goodbye, pretend we never met

    Run away, run
    Run away, run
    Run away, run...

Admin, why won't you put this on the front page, but you will put my numerous #YCYL topics there?

To anyone still on meth: whatever you think that drug is "giving you" (strength, confidence, drive) it's not...it only unleashes that which is already in you. You don't need a drug to give you permission to be the person you want to be.

Well said. I know people who use drugs and have been trying to convince them they can experience their world just as fully when sober. They, however, don't seem to think so icon_sad.gif

Hmm. I wonder how long it takes the average crystal meth user to become addicted, or how frequent they would have to use it within a time frame.

    Still, hardly worth the risk..

It's a shame how corrosive this is, as the benefits, as cerebrally intriguing as they are, are certainly far outweighed by the almost certain consequences.
