Wait....I thought Canada was suppose to be one of the most liberal country in the world. Oh well....that Diva lady sounded like she hated gays herself....not just because of what she has been told by the landlord.

Here in Toronto they call Bramptom, Bramladesh for a reason. I seriously wouldn't even consider living in Brampton. It is cheaper than most of Toronto but not worth it, let alone when ure gay surrounded by a group of people that came from countries where it is completely legal to sentence and in some cases even to execute someone over sexual orientation.

    I thought it was Socialist.

    it is.

Toronto is a liberal city (im a little shocked that Ford is mayor cuz he's not a big fan of gays) but the surrounding cities aren't gay-friendly. Oakville, Brampton, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Burlington, etc

Bramladesh? never heard of that and I'm from toronto.

the couple will EASILY win that case. The human rights act is completely on their side. IF that landlord was smart he would just settle.

Really? Richmond Hill? I used to live there and my ex and I never felt the need to hide our sexuality. in fact, many people spoke to me openly about my relationship.

lol, Rent Diva is basically saying her client directed her to break the law, and so she did.

Imagine how loudly that landlord would scream if he was denied a loan or an apartment because of being 7th Day Adventist.

I lived in newmarket, I was straight until I finished high school. During high school they would beat up gays, and the fucking school staff at SIr william mulock SS did nothing.

If, according to the article, the agent responded to the complainant over the phone in such a tactless dumbass way, then I would be pissed too. What an idiot! She handled it terribly and likely invoked this recourse. She only made the safe assumption that her client wouldn't want to rent to them. In the end, it probably will be her and her 'agency' being charged and not even her 'client'. How loyal of her to take the hit!

yourname2000 saidThis is such a cut-n-dry thing in Canada now, I'm really surprised that anyone still tries to discriminate in this way....there is NO recourse. The dealio is: if you don't want to rent to absolutely anyone protected by the code (which is pretty much everyone), then don't be a landlord. It's stupidity on par with saying "we don't believe in taxes, so as a business we're not going to charge any"....then don't be in business, because there is absolutely no way to do that.

    I agree with that.
I'm shocked to hear that because I've always thought that Canada was a very liberal country but I just assumed that, I didn't really research it.

It's so stupid to say they told her to refuse housing to gay people when clearly it's a breach of legality, if they asked her to steal money too would she also do that?
To me, I think she just happens to be the homphobic one who used her colour as a way to come across less prejudice.
If the seventh-day adventists wanted the tenants to practice communion because it's their beliefs would that fly as well?

That rental diva did not realise how hypocritical her statements actually are. That or/and she's really stupid and needs better customer service skills.
Don't go all gay rights on me?!?!?! WTF?!
So should black people not have gotten all "black rights" too?

    I'm baffled.

She sounds like a common retard. Maybe she should move back to Jamaica?
