    Hey Guys

First off, thank you all for being such awesome guys on here. I am going to Ft. Lauderdale for the first time and being new in the Gay world. I know many of you have been there.. Can you give me some ideas of great places to go? Restaurants, Hotels, Clubs.. Thanks.

Went for the first time this past spring. Absolutely loved the Royal Palms. Going back later this summer.

You can stay at the Royal Palms, yes, but right by there is also the Flamingo (www.theflamingoresort.com) which is nice too and costs a little less. Those two are the bomb and both 5 star. And for a really good deal and a place next to the beach, you may want to check out The Alhambra Beach Resort (alhambrabeachresort.com ).
All are within a couple blocks of each other and all are gay resorts with nice pools, close to the beach, etc. The Alhambra is the best deal. The Royal Palms and the Flamingo have a little extra "fluff" but if you don't need your bath towels to be egyptian cotton, then go with the Alhambra, LOL. The money you save can be spent having fun elsewhere. Besides, having fun in Ft. Lauderdale is about NOT being in your hotel room.

If you want to go to clubs...hmmmm...I hope you have a rental car or a friend there. They are scattered all over the city. Most traveled clubs are Georgie's Alibi, The Colloseum, The Copa, Boom, Eagle, RamRod, and the like, (the names have probably changed by now - so ask). Any hotel is going to have "HotSpots" magazine or something like that in the lobby or you can ask for it and it will have all the places to go in "a gay way" in Fort Lahdeedah. Don't be affraid to ask..after all..it's Ft. Lauderdale. Many of the clubs change names so fast it will make your head spin, so it is VERY helpful to get the latest HotSpots Magazine or a gay guide mag. like it at your hotel.
If you want an excellent martini and great food where the gentlemen go and civilized setting, then I would go to "the Gin Mill"/Costello's near Georgie's Alibi and Boom. (remember...some of the clubs open up extra areas for more fun and dancing after 9 or 10 pm, so when you walk into a place in the early evening and think "that's it?!"...wait for it. LOL. Always ask the bartender if they have and "additional area" that opens up later, and at what time, or when does the fun start? They'll let you know.
You will also want to set aside an evening to stroll along Las Olas Blvd. - a street filled with the beautiful people, restaurants, boutiques, and very nice in the eveninigs all lit up. On Las Olas, after you've done some site seeing, strolled the street, and had dinner, walk over to Cathode Ray (also gay) and have some drinks and dancing. Fun Place. At any of the clubs, if they aren't hopping when you go in, ask where the fun is, as each place has it's special day and time...they will be happy to help you out.
When you are starving after that LONG night out on the town, go the The Floridian on Las Olas and have some great food - all the boys go there for chow.
Most importantly, where ever you will be staying, talk to the guys working there or the owners - usually one in the same, and tell them what you are in the mood for...dancing, or a popular watering hole, or shopping, a gay bar with lap dances, lol, etc., they will hook you up.

Oh...also, a nice place to check out is River Walk (afternoon or early evening) (the end of Las Olas Blvd.near downtown). Nice outdoor shopping and restaurant area and you can also hop on a boat and take a cruise around the waterways and the intercostal waterway for a pretty small/decent fee.
Near River Walk is Voo Doo Lounge - check and see if they have something cool going on while your there too.(I'm sure they will have a Labor Day Weekend party there at some point). They have some fun special events there.

Depending on what part of town you are staying in I would say that your two best "starting off" places with regard to clubs and getting the low down on what's going on where...would be either Cathode Ray on Las Olas ( www.cathoderayusa.com ) or Georgie's Alibi in Wilton Manors (http://georgiesalibi.com/wiltonmanors.html)

That'll get you started...good luck ! Take some aspirin, cuz those guys down there will wear you out ! I know, I used to live there. LOL.

I lived there for quite a few years
and it's a great place for gay vacations
First take a look at the local gay magazine
    http://www.the411mag.com/
It's got locations and listing for gay hotels
restaurants and clubs plus some local events that are taking place
Fluxu hasn't been there in a while because Coliseum and the Copa are no more but there are PLENTY clubs and bars of every kind
but the gay beach is something that can't be missed
    have a great time icon_cool.gif

    Well...
Like i said, I USED to live there. Haven't lived there since 2002 ( after that I moved to Chicago) and also, like I said, the clubs change names. The 411 mag. is a good source too. And also, like I said, the best bet to start off would be either Georgie's Alibi or Cathode Ray...they are pretty much standards there.
Besides, I wasn't your run of the mill bar fly like so many others there, so you may know more about it.
    Is that OK GQJock? icon_smile.gif
What bars do you suggest GQJokc?

I'm hoping the gay beach is still there GQJock...or has that been moved too? Near Sabastian Street? Or that beach down off Dania Beach Blvd. in that park...I used to go there...forgot the name..."John Lloyd State Park" ? That was nice and had a nice gay beach.

    Just trying to be helpful.

    And you were very helpful
The rest of what you said was spot on
you need to have a daily roster for the comings and goings of gay clubs down there

BTW... Cathode Ray is gone now too icon_wink.gif

Cathode Ray is gone !! WOW !
    Thought they'd be there still.
But I'm glad...I hated that drunken bastard of an owner. He was such an ass.
The names and owners tend to change but the places seem to keep on rolling don't they. I think they do it for tax reasons. LOL.

well everyone saw that one coming i guess. he was certainly a drunk..and not a very nice one at that.
Now you want to tak about a really NICE owner...I think the guy that owns Costello's/The Gin Mill is a really nice guy and very pleasant to talk with. I forgot his name now. Was it John? Or maybe his name was Richard also. Can't remember...but he's very nice. Did you know he made that long wooden bar in The Gin Mill by himself..he did all the work and installment of it. Cool guy.

    Hi Guys:

Just wanted to say a thank-you for the recommendations. I also find RJ forums very helpful and experiences that other guys noted, even this post is old did my research before I went to Ft. Lauderdale this past two weeks and had a great time at the Flamingo...posting some photos of the resort...I highly recommended and the staff was gracious as Tony as his other staff were amazing in recommendations. Also you are just two stops signs aways from the beach and Sebastian Beach, if you go. I got a great price because of slow season, is best to give them a call and you can get a better price. Also Happy Hour is between 5-6:00 p.m. at the resort is included with your room price.
