I agree, she's beautiful and made us proud. The video should have been more about her, I didn't care about seeing pics of the Russian chicks.

It kinda pisses me off that the IOC insists on breaking ties in gymnastics now even though ties existed before. Is it really that much trouble to award another bronze medal? icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyway, to me the tie-breaking procedure was stupid. What they did was take the total of the three highest of Mustafina and Raisman, so that's what gave Mustafina the bronze. So much for calling it the all-around. If they insisted on breaking a tie, it would've made more sense to give the gymnast with the higher combined execution scores across all four apparatuses.

It would have been awesome if Gabby was alive in the 90s when gymnastics was ruled by gymnasts such as shannon miller, gina gogean, svetlana boginskaya, lavinia milosovic, mo huilan, lilia podkopayeva, simona amanar, yelena zamolochikova, amongst others. I wonder how Gabby would have compared against these girls...

I say just give it to both. Basically the russian chick getting an absurd amount of points on the uneven bars kinda screwed her. Raisman is taking it like a champ though, she knows she should have done better on the balance beam. Plus she'll probably make out with the Gold in Floor later in the week.

Mustafina was getting low-balled on bars all week because she was in rounds that had Elizabeth Tweddle. It's been very obvious that the judges have been setting Tweddle up for the win. Mustafina is Tweddle's main competition on bars, and she had been scoring considerably lower than Tweddle. Well, go figure Tweddle isn't in the all-around competition, and suddenly Mustafina's bar score goes up substantially! Although I have to say she did look crisper here than she had in qualification and the team final.

Raisman fumbling on balance beam was a bit of a shock, lol. Uneven bars is where she has historically ruined her chances in the all-around at past World Championships. However, go figure she makes it through that then screws up on beam, eh?

It's pretty hard to compare the gymnasts of today to gymnasts of the past considering how much the sport has changed since the '90s, the most significant change being the elimination of compulsory routines. They were discontinued after the 1996 Olympics, so since then the gymnasts train and compete only optional routines.

I could not be more pleased with Gabby, though. Wow! To think just a year ago she was a long shot for even making the World Championship team in Tokyo when she had a pretty terrible time at the 2011 US Championships. Then she showed up in Tokyo, contributed to the team gold, and made the final in uneven bars. Then she appeared at the American Cup earlier this year in New York and had a whole new attitude and confidence. It carried her through, and now she's Olympic-fucking-Champion!

Why only 4 routines for females while the men have 6?

Big question of the day: did the judges really call this a 0.000? icon_confused.gif

Granted, I saw Wheelan's vault and agree it was a total crash. But the screen cap seems to show her feet hit the mat first, which means she should be given full value of the vault. However, I'll have to dig up a better video of the vault to get a better idea.

I don't know, but it's been that way for decades. I remember they used to have rope climbing and other odd events in the early 1900s. However, the apparatuses we have now for men and women have been set since the '40s.

I think 98% of gymnasts and gymnastics fans/viewers wish they could get rid of pommel horse.

I mean, hey, rhythmic gymnastics was able to get rid of the rope routine! So why not ditch pommel horse? icon_wink.gif

I know! Those have been an utter embarrassment. One of my friends said they looked ready to take their dog out for a walk in the rain, haha.
