Thanks for posting this! Has completely changed my cynical view of making the Hobbit into a trilogy! icon_biggrin.gif
Have read, and re-read....and re-read, The Hobbit and The Fellowship.....Two Towers...Return of ...etc...so many times since I was in high school!

This is going to be fantastic! icon_cool.gif

    Thanks again,

It works for the director and producers because the first trilogy made a killing at the box office, and the licensing deals were lucrative as well. You're only fooling yourself if you think that anyone in Hollywood gives a shit about anything other than milking money from the gullible.

    "the gullible?!?"

I'm sorry ASSHOLE, but some of us actually love these stories/books and now movies.
Has nothing to do with gullibility. Just pure enjoyment/escapement.

Have you ever read the stories, seen the movies, and read this link? And if you actually read the books, they always eluded to past wars and stories. This movie version of The Hobbit will touch on all of these.
Read this link from the OP:

The Hobbit was my gateway book into the fantasy realm and I will treasure every moment that I am able to spend in Middle Earth!! Bring on the next trilogy!!

Both books are wonderful stories for a young imagination, but I have to agree with credo on this. Three films will bring in more money than two, bottom line. This is the major motivation.

Having said that, more film may give us a better, fuller interpretation of the book. I was impressed by Jackson`s 'Lord of the Rings', but ultimately disappointed as so much of the novel was missing in the film, even though it was nine hours long in total, especially the poetry and song; the sheer language(s) of Tolkien`s world(which is where all his writing and stories began). The film made less sense that the novel because of this, sadly.

Maybe Jackson felt frustrated by the lack of justice he did to the trilogy and wants to do something better?

(Mostly tongue in cheek because I'll take as much Middle Earth as they'll give us.)

Now it's a trilogy? I was irritated he was making two movies out of it!

I owe you an apology for calling you an 'asshole' in my response to your posting where you referred to those of us who would go to these movies as gullible.
    So I'm sorry. I don't think you're an asshole. You didn't deserve that. icon_redface.gif

I think you and the others whom have stated that this is simply about $, are wrong, but not assholes. icon_wink.gif

And no, I don't think (or should I say I'm not that 'gullible') to think that money has nothing to do with it. But yes, I believe that his artistic creativity has much to do with it.
If you have actually read the book(s), then you know that there is so much mentioned about past wars, ...etc...that weren't brought out. Now they will be.

Curious here...have you actually read the The Hobbit? (And the Lord Of The Rings trilogy?)

    Hello Tristan,

I'm actually just finishing up the book. I like to do that with books made into movies to see how true to the story they are.

I thought Jackson did a great job with the LOTR trilogy and he was able to do it without making it into 9 movies.

    Doug,
Glad you are reading The Hobbit. (You read the other books first? icon_confused.gif )

Despite your "making it into 9 movies" dig, I believe you will find that The Hobbit eludes to a whole bounty of other stories that Jackson will be attempting to create on film. Hence, 'making it into 3 movies.'

    Hope you enjoy it! icon_biggrin.gif

When I believe I'm wrong, I publicly admit to it. Unlike others.
Credo can choose to accept my apology or not. It was sincerely meant.

don't get your panties in a knot. I wasn't making fun of the apology it sounds sincere. I was making fun of the fact that gay men rarely do-esp here on RJ.

I did read the other books first, probably when I was about 16yo, never did read the Hobbit.

I'm sure I will love the movies, I will reserve opinion on whether it needs to be made into three.

I was a bit worried when I first heard The Hobbit was becoming a trilogy. But the more I thought about it the more sense it made. Peter Jackson isn't just filming the book as a movie, he's filming all the unspoken, unwritten implied events that occur in this era before LotR that we only learn about in that later trilogy and its appendices.

I think he's proven he can be trusted with Tolkien's world, so I'm confident the three movies for The Hobbit will be awesome.

    No. Just no.

Just because The Hobbit is subtitled Out There And Back Again doesn't mean that they need to include every single footstep of their journey.
    Editing is perfectly acceptable.

Jesus, if they can stretch the Twilight saga -- basically, an already watered-down single episode of Buffy -- into a movie franchise, than those of us with actual taste deserve three Hobbit movies.
