Not really. If you read the whole article it's clear that the republican base and Romney are against gay marriage.

Obama's liability is the global economy, which is a BIG liability to have.
Romney's liability is himself and his party.

How are they staying away from it? Michelle Bachmann is already in one.

It looks like I can add "ability to recognize sarcasm" to the list of things you need improvement on.

What is Romney going to do. The Mormon church is really starting to show support of gay marriage. As if his religion doesn't already hurt him.

Hateful, racist, sexist, greedy COWARDS. THAT is the GOP of 2012.

Too bad. We need a strong two-party system. But the GOP is weak beyond belief.

The GOP has been demolished by the narrow minded, bible thumping screwballs and the war mongering neocons. The sad reality of the matter is that the democrats are not much better.

You can thank Ronald Reagan. He single handily destroyed the GOP.

To be fair, the GOP got WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY worse once the Contract America in 1994 swept into office. Reagan was very conservative and he brought the evangelicals to the table, but at least he knew the meaning of the word compromise. Republican officials since 1994 have been far more extreme. Or at least that's what I've found.

everyone knows the GOP are anti same-sex marriage anyway, so i guess their reasoning is that there's no need to state the obvious.

hateful bigots! i can't wait for them to all die off already and let the younger, more tolerant and accepting generations take over.

The GOP has been destroying themselves for a long time. Racist southerns abandoned the Democrats during LBJ's great society and bought right into Nixon's dog whistle politics. Evangelicals ready for a culture war and working class northern Democrats angry with the welfare state couldn't get enough of Reagan. Tea party is a grab bag of bigots, quasi-anarchists, John Birch Society leftovers and straight up idiots. Tough to keep a base like that happy and still be able to attract moderates and independents.

Team Romney may be steering clear of gay marriage, but he's still got surrogates like Santorum, Huckabee and Palin happily stuffing their faces with chick-fil-a, posting about it on twitter and calling it taking a stand.

I honestly don't know how the party still exists, only in America.

Actually, you can thank the Contract With America, as well as the techno boom (that's #1 actually), for the 90s economy that waxes us all nostalgic.

    Nope.

The Clinton economic boom was made possible by President Clinton and the Democrats raising taxes on the rich in 1993.

The increased government revenues that resulted from raising taxes on the rich - combined with the beneficial impact of the techno boom - created the longest strongest period of economic growth in US history - and turned massive yearly budget deficits into huge yearly budget surpluses.

The Contract With America had nothing to do with it.
In fact - very little of the Contract With America was even implemented.
It was an empty package of promises that the Repubs failed to deliver.
    http://m.voices.yahoo.com/the-gop-contract-america-republican-boulevard-50058.html

The great economic boom of the 1990's was a result of Democratic economic policies and good luck/timing.

Tragically - the economic success that was achieved in the 1990's was destroyed by the gross fiscal incompetence of George W. Bush in the 2000's.

I think gay marriage is an overblown issue when it comes to election time. I don't think it's a deciding issue for most Americans. Most people that were going to vote for Romney weren't voting for Obama anyways.

I think more people are concerned about economic issues, as they should be.
