GAY AND PROUD IN UGANDA

http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/newsdesk/2012/08/gay-and-proud-in-uganda.html#slide_ss_0=1

"Uganda’s Pride was a weekend-long event, made up of film screenings, a fashion show in drag, and all-night (and into the morning) parties. Two hundred and fifty tickets had been sold, though, as a vivacious trans woman named Cleo told me, fifty-some people showed up on Thursday and Friday, because many were still wary about gathering in large groups."

Fuck.....they make the Stonewall folks look like pussies! I don't know if they're brave or suicidal. I just hope they're able to stay safe.

That's incredible. I'm surprised they got as many people to show up as they did, considering they all knew they could be putting themselves in danger. Good for them.

Regardless of the struggles these people face, I am very proud of them. Baharti might have the Christian backing him, but this people have proven to be more resilient in their quest for equality.

Awesome! I came out 21 years ago in rural/bigoted Arkansas, but I only faced gay bashings. They face death. They're MUCH more braver than I could ever dream of being.

Hats off to them!
