Has anybody else seen the move Patrick, Age 1.5? I saw it on Netflix last night and decided it to give it a try... definitely one of the best gay-themed movies I've ever seen. In fact so good that it forced me to create this thread (which is my very first!). Anyways, besides urging you to watch the movie, I'd like to hear what are the 'hidden gems' of Netflix that you all have come across. You know, the low budget movies that you think are gonna be super cheesy and dry but then get you hooked within minutes.

Ive probably seen this movie 8 times now since i first watched it on monday. Ive been watching a lot of gay themed movies and this one is the most non-superficial. I really like movies with emotion and leaves me feeling good and hopeful.
Another one that i watched over and over was Dorian Blues. The rest are forgettable or too heavy on the drama side and just leaves me depressed.

Meh there are a couple but, I really don't like many of them because of how plotless they are.

Wow I saw that one on Netflix streaming but passed by it b/c it didn't sound good. I'll have to give it a shot. Some gay-themed movies that I loved (not sure all of these are on Netflix streaming) were "David's Birthday," "Just A Question of Love," "Shelter," and "Weekend." (I know the 1st and last movies I mentioned were on Netflix.)

David's birthday was good. I really liked it. Crazy ending though.

I know, right?! I loved it up until the ending even though I saw that coming a mile away. That scene at the table after the crash was sooo awkward LOL.

Mopeds are so much fun to ride! I zipped around this small island in the Pacific one at night w/ a bunch of friends and just went exploring. We even discovered this abandoned warehouse. Good times.

Those were really cute scenes. Being on a motorcycle/moped with someone you're attracted to can be very intimate. I felt like the chemistry was really great between those 2 actors. I guess that's why there are those daddy-son fetishes we keep hearing about.

That scene when the older psychiatrist was lusting after the younger guy on the dance floor was so intense that it made me a little uncomfortable though haha. It was like jeez bro...reign it in a bit or go whack off first. You're becoming a creep.

Canadian netflix sucks, but i was fortunate enough to see Patrick age 1,5 on youtube awhile ago, definitely a cute movie with a reasonable plot (for a gay movie).

Another good thing is that at least the Canadian netflix comes with Weekend, and A Single Man, probably the two most original gay films available. If you guys haven't checked them out yet, I strongly recommend them both.

Bookmarked! That's the thing about Netflix streaming...it's filled w/ crappy B movies! Ya gotta sort through the rubbish to find the gems. You and your awesome links! icon_wink.gif
(Too bad I've already seen most of those recommendations.)

Just watched the "Man from Nowhere"... I liked it a lot...Action with an emotional storyline... got a little teary-eyed at the end icon_razz.gif Another Korean movie that is kind of messed up is "Oldboy". Supposedly, its in the top 100 movies of all time?

The movie "Monster" was pretty interesting if you like cloverfield type of movies. In a similar genre, the movie "Trollhunter" was decent icon_lol.gif

As far as David's Birthday, that movie disgusted me. The married guy (Matteo) really needs to go kill himself. icon_evil.gif

"Castaway on the Moon" was a really good foreign movie too.
"12 and Holding" was compelling but breaks your heart.

I'll let you know what I think of it later. icon_smile.gif

"Man from Nowhere" was excellent (the main actor is hot too :winkicon_smile.gif and "Oldboy" is a friggin' classic now. Korean cinema is just taking off like no other. I didn't mention any Korean flicks b/c I thought this was a gay movie thread. Have you seen "The Chaser?" It's a fantastic Korean action film.

I know what you mean about "David's Birthday" but you can't help who you love , right? I think Matteo was beating himself up for it but he can't help it. It was driving him wild. I can kinda relate haha.

Oh "Sex is Zero" is a pretty raunchy, funny Korean movie too.

Funny - I just saw Patrick 1,5 last night myself. One of the rare gay movies with a really high rating (4 stars)!

There is Leslie Jordan's one man show, pretty funny. The Jack Wrangler story was pretty good (NSFW like, totally). Yossi and Jagger is pretty amazing. La Cage aux Folles is very funny.

The movie choices on Netflix are TERRIBLE. I can barely find movies I want to watch.

So true. I'm thinking of canceling it...I haven't though b/c I'm still watching "Breaking Bad" episodes now and they have some good documentaries. If you don't have a TV, then they have some good TV series though they only have season 1 of "The 4400" ugh. I liked it when they offered both DVDs and streaming for an affordable price b/c the good movies are usually only available via DVDs. Now it's a ton of crappy movies on streaming. They even periodically take down streaming movie options. LAME.
