Lots of guys' profiles say that they are "down to Earth."
I'm always confused as to what this means. I mean I wanted a Perun's Axe amulet, but those are hard to find so I made one out of brass, and since I wanna try to make a pumpkin pie this autumn I'm growing my own pumpkins right now. Is that more DIY?
What does down to Earth mean to you?

The definition of "down-to-earth" is as follows:
A person who is without pretense or one who is practical in their decision making and philosophy of life.

    Realistic; sensible.
    Not pretentious or affected; straightforward.
Not overly ornate; simple in style.

It's a cliche, and a bad one at that.
It means the guy is dull, uncreative, and probably not motivated.

If a guy says this to you, run away. All the guys I've gone out with who say "down to earth" really mean "I'm absolutely boring with nothing of interest in me in the least." Aka, guys who want to seem casual, normal, and uncomplicated use this line.

But this is a generalization. Some guys are pretty cool. Most are desperate for a <>

down to earth in short means, humbled, realistic, relatable, and non-materialistic. So if some one were to put that as a description of them on their profile, they would basically be saying they're not some high maintenance, stuck up gay guy

Down to earth means practical and having an appreciation for common sense. If someone does not appreciate these qualities in a person, run far far away from them: they're probably melodramatic, cray cray, and probe to drama (the opposite of down to earth).

When I define myself as down to earth, I mean it as someone who lives in line with his values. Someone who understands that having strong values create strong passion and guide everything that you do. That without action, there can be no reaction and that success is the result of consistent improvement. Also, someone who values people more than material things.

Not someone who lives their lives expecting everything to be handed to them in a silver platter. Those people haven't got their feet on the ground.

Down to earth... Comes from the metaphor *to be grounded. He is grounded=He is mentally and emotionally stable.

But i also agree with the early posters who point out that a person who needs to identify as stable is probably too stable... Un
Unless he is a new ager/yogi etc, in which case it's just another cliche buzz word that signifies the person as part of the in group.
Anyway, there are always exceptions.. And also different people have different ideas as to what it means to be down to earth...

yourname2000 saidDown to earth: wall-flower. doesn't want to ever stand out. has no aspirations. prefers to just blend in and wait for life to pass them by. their goal is to be average and just get through this life without anyone knowing they were here.

I guess I'm the only one that sees it this way...

head in the clouds = pretentious, lofty goals and expectations, high maintenance, "i'm better than you and look at me coz i'm so hawt" drama queen
down to earth = unpretentious, realistic, practical, humble, mentally and emotionally stable with goals and expectations and drive to accomplish them without screaming for attention.
loser = doesn't want to ever stand out. has no aspirations. prefers to just blend in and wait for life to pass them by. their goal is to be average and just get through this life without anyone knowing they were here.

    ...or not stable at all.

I tend to interpret self-descriptions of "down to earth" the same way I interpret self-descriptions of "masculine", "laid back", and "hung": guys will often use such terms because they sincerely believe the description true, or because they desperately want it to be true. Either way, the description often isn't true.
