Apparently this is the GOP's attempt to pick a flashy "game-changer" to make voters forget they don't like Romney and never have.
Except Ryan's position are as popular as toxic waste:
Phasing out Medicare and jacking up taxes on the middle class is not going to fly with anyone but the Tea-Party kool-aid drinkers.

    Psst, GOP:
Obama won Ryan's district in 2008.
Where do you go from there?

From DemocraticUnderground.comThe Ryan choice is a symbol of how desperate the Romney campaign has gotten. After claiming that they wouldn’t repeat John McCain’s mistakes of 2008, the Romney campaign is repeating one of McCain’s biggest errors. Paul Ryan is Mitt Romney’s game change. Much like McCain in 2008, the base is growing increasingly disgruntled and vocal about the direction of his campaign. Polls show Romney trailing Obama both nationally and in swing states. Romney’s campaign has become a daily gaffe fest that is being undercut by his own staff and surrogates. It was all falling apart for Mitt, and after Andrea Saul’s endorsement of Obamacare this week, Romney had get the base back on his side.

    Romney’s solution is Paul Ryan.

The choice of Ryan means that the Ryan budget and the privatization of Social Security and Medicare are going to be front and center this fall. By adding Ryan, Romney is going to have to also deal with the fact that Ryan’s budget is full of smoke and mirrors, and it actually raises the deficit. The Ryan budget is a massive upward redistribution of wealth that actually plays into Obama’s characterization of Romney as the candidate of the rich.

Romney urgently needs to change the narrative away from Bain, his tax returns, and his gaffes, but Paul Ryan actually reinforces that storyline. The Ryan budget gets people to stop talking about Romney’s tax returns and instead discuss how he just picked the guy who wants to kill Social Security and Medicare. This is like throwing yourself on a grenade only to have an atomic bomb land on you. Democrats will be doing handstands of joy, if Romney has indeed selected Paul Ryan. If he has done so, the GOP nominee has given Democrats the one running mate that they can use to define Romney from now until Election Day. The base will ecstatic about Paul Ryan. Democrats will be ecstatic to run against Paul Ryan, and by the time the campaign is over voters will be certain not elect Paul Ryan or the guy who chose him to the White House.

    Yay!

Romney proves by this choice of Ryan to be deaf and dumb on top of totally out of touch with everyday Americans. Just watch Obama's Approval very soon start gradually going up and leaving Romney behind. The Republicans are going to have work extra hard now to block the poor, elderly, black and hispanic voters by their ID schemes.

Too bad. I would've voted for him if he'd picked Sarah Palin as is VP. I guess I'll just have to vote for Obama again.icon_lol.gif

    Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahaha.

The awkward gay-bashing tax cheat picks the boring Ayn Rand-loving Medicare killer. Romney wont pick up one state from this and is now more likely to lose Florida AND Ohio based on Ryan's plan to do away with Social Security and Medicare.

Inept Romney campaign: the gift that keeps on giving.

Good thing you're not gay.icon_rolleyes.gifHere's his track record:

    OPPOSES EQUALITY GOAL: HATE CRIMES

Paul Ryan voted against the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act which was signed into law by President Obama on October 28, 2009.

SUPPORTS EQUALITY GOAL: NON DISCRIMINATION AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL

Paul Ryan voted for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) when it was last put for a vote in the House in 2007. He was one of 35 Republicans to vote in favor of it. Note that ENDA at that time did not include coverage for gender identity.

Mitt Romney, however, opposes ENDA at the federal level.

OPPOSES EQUALITY GOAL: MILITARY --- REPEAL DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL*

Paul Ryan voted against the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell which was signed into law by President Obama on December 22, 2010.

    OPPOSES EQUALITY GOAL: MARRIAGE EQUALITY

Like Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan has been a strong opponent of marriage equality and even civil unions. He was very outspoken in his support of the Wisconsin constitutional amendment that defined marriage between a man and a woman and even forbade civil unions.

On Meet the Press (Feb. 19, 2011), he reconfirmed that he supports the Wisconsin Constitutional Amendment that defined marriage between one man and one woman.

Paul Ryan voted in favor of the Federal Marriage Amendment the two times that was put for a vote in the House in 2004 and 2006. He also voted in favor of the Marriage Protection Act of 2004.

UNKNOWN SUPPORT FOR EQUALITY GOAL: FREEDOM OF GENDER

There is no public mention of his support or opposition for other transgender-related goals such as birth certificates, driver's license, etc.

UNKNOWN SUPPORT FOR EQUALITY GOAL: PROTECTING YOUTH

Paul Ryan's positions on Protecting Youth are unknown. It is known, however, that like Mitt Romney he did not create a video for the It Gets Better project. President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, members of his administration and thousands of others have create videos in support of LGBT youth.

EQUALITY GOAL: SAME SEX PARENTING RIGHTS

Paul Ryan voted in 1999 in favor of banning gay adoptions in the District of Columbia. No other positions of his on same gender parenting rights is known.

What a surprise. Anyway, that is how gay republicans like their politicians. If you do not respect your own dignity, why should your politicians bother?

Yes, RLD, because you and all your huge successes on an international scale over your lifetime so dwarf that of a simpleton like Mitt Romney. Why, with all your infinite wisdom, are YOU not running for President? icon_rolleyes.gif

As for my personal feeling about Paul Ryan as a V.P. choice...I think it's a solid choice. He's not who I expected, but I'm not disappointed either. There is a lot to like about Paul Ryan, and his budget plan, while controversial, is a bold example of the tough decisions that simply have to be made to save us from falling into an abyss of debt and over-spending. Should be an interesting next few months.

    THIS.

Already, the media is picking up on those points. Romney has sealed his own fate with the Paul Ryan "anvil" around his neck.

Regarding Ryan's love for the philosophy of Ayn Rand. Ryan now tries to distance himself.

On Ryan and His Budget. Ryan is unapologetic.

However, as substantive and meaningful as the debate will be around Paul Ryan's personal philsosophy and policy wonking (especially as a benefit to the Democrats in downstream House and Senate races), attention will gravitate back to Romney's tax returns and the "gifts" to Obama which still lurk in those secretive filings.

This is REALLY going to be fun to watch!!!!

    Hahahahahahaha!

Thank you, Mitt Romney, for really making my day!

    God Bless America!

    Obama: 4 More Years!!!! Yay!!!!

    An analysis in a July 21-26, 2012,
    http://www.democracycorps.com/attachments/article/902/July%20Battleground%20Survey%20Graphs_final_v2.pdf

...Greenberg-Quinlan-Rosner Research poll for Democracy Corps of 1000 likely voters in 54 Republican-held battleground districts indicates:

The Ryan Budget barely garners majority support when described in the most positive Republican language (i.e. "Saving Medicare", "Fixing the broken tax code").

The Ryan Budget when described in less favorable language (i.e. "Privatizing Medicare", "Pushing children back into poverty", registers majority "serious doubts" and "very serious doubts" among "Seniors" (64%) and the "Rising American Electorate" (69%), and "Independents" (54%).

"Minority" (77%), "Unmarried Women" (71%), and "Youth"70%) voters have an even higher level of doubt. "White Non-College" (63%) and "Suburban"(60%) voters also have at least "serious doubt" about key aspects of the Ryan Budget.

When presented with both forms of messaging, likely voters tend to shift towards the Democrats. The most significant shifts are among "Independents", "Moderate Republicans", "Unmarried Women", and "White Non-College Non-Union" voters.

My take on all this is that not only can Obama retake the White House by simply casting doubt on The Ryan Budget, but that Democrats in House and Senate races in Republican-held districts and states can pick up more seats.

I envision Obama back in the White House, and with a Democrat majority House, and Democrat majority Senate (but not supermajority).

Thank you Mitt Romney for picking Paul Ryan as your Veep running mate!

GAMRican said Romney has sealed his own fate with the Paul Ryan "anvil" around his neck.

The only reason Ryan was picked is becuz the party is really insecure that Romney hasn't closed the deal with the base. otherwise the smart pick would have been Rubio: gets you FL (2x bigger electoral win than WI) and brings the hispanic vote, and still keeps social conservatives.

the fatal flaw with Ryan is he comes with so much concrete anti-independent baggage, he kills what little appeal Romney had for the middle. and you only win if you get the independents.

tells you something about just how insecure the party is with their nominee.
