Just wondered if there were any RJers who wanted to see if we click for gaming. Haven't decided on a server yet and tick tok.

I will eventually want to try to 'seriously' pvp but also want to enjoy the pve and take it slow, but I want to avoid joining some random people's guild because I'm going to be guildless.

Think I might be joining the MMO-Champion guild. As for server, don't know yet.

But you can be a part of multiple guilds and visit other servers with your main server characters, so lot of flexibility, if you ever want to say the proverbial greeting in game sometime Bluey.

Also what race/profession are you gonna be? Human male mesmer here icon_smile.gif Love it after the betas & stress tests.

Good point on that. I do know you are limited on transferring and it costs resources of some sort.

Sylvari Ranger, methinks. Not MASSIVELY impressed with the Beta, but it's free to play so I don't mind getting it.

I am leaning towards a Charr Warrior; played it in beta and liked the feel. I usually go for heavy armored up-in-your face melee classes.

As for the latter, aye, but you only need to transfer if you want to play on that realm's World PvP team. Elsewise, no need to transfer; everything else can be done by their free "guesting" service.

But if you do want to transfer, it will cost gems, which you buy via real cash or you trade for gold in-game with other players, which will likely be a steep price since it will be tied to real world currency.

It is nice that other gay people actually play melee classes. I always thought all gay people play ranged casters because that's every gaymer I've ever met in real life (and I've met a few...). I usually play my casters like a mesmer, which is why I'm excited this game actually has a class that reflects how I've played in other games (although less effectively because it was a subset skill playstyle of some sort of mage). I didn't play GW1, so I do not share this "disappointment" some of the fans are experiencing when they realize it is not the same incarnation that held the same name in GW1--but I'm fine with that. I wouldn't want such shut down mechanics in this game because they didn't make it like that.

I played a frost mage in WoW with focus on control over damage from 04-09 (4.5 yrs), and then I played the sleep storm spec sorcerer in Aion (2 yrs exactly). I haven't played it since 3.0 came out. The game has lost its appeal to me just like WoW. I treat my games like relationships:
    1) excitation/infatuation phase (if this doesn't last longer than a day or a week, the relationship will be super short)
    2) got it down and enjoyin it still
    3) gets boring and lots of crap comes up
    4) tolerate the crap because I still think it's worth it overall and there isn't much else I'd rather do at that point
    5) a) Devs redo the game and crap gets resolved and back to step 1 or 2
    b) Crap starts to piss me off and I wonder why I'm even bothering to play the game
    6) My crap tolerance endurance runs out and I don't even want to log on anymore
    7) Breakup process with the game...you sign on every now and then (ie may have breakup sex)
icon_cool.gif You wonder why you even come back because the sex isn't that good and what you signed on for still isn't rewarding enough to merit your subscription
    9) LOL that game? I'm over it. Haven't signed on for 6 months and am looking at other games and hotties and salivating icon_razz.gif

Nothing wrong with a good old caster but gw2 has really made me drool at nearly every single class but im still obssessed with this idea of making a sylvari guardian or a human thief its just far to fun slice an dicin then vanishing into thin air xD

Nearly all of the "gaymers" I've met do gravitate towards ranged classes. It is an observation that I've kept to myself cause I thought it was just my subjective perspective. It is good to hear/read a fellow gamer notice it too!

Actually most have played either a healer or a mage. Luckily this game doesn't have a pure healer...I'd call guardian or necro the closest that gets.

I'll be playing at least a human mesmer and there really isn't a profession I don't want to play... damn 5 character slots vs 8 professions!

I know right? They want your $$$ for those character slots.

It's quite smart for them to do that, too. 5 slots for 5 races allows each player to access the races' stories without purchasing more slots. Since it's free to play after the initial purchase, more people wouldn't mind dropping a few bucks for the extra slots. Heck, I wouldn't mind and at the beta rate of $10 per slot (800 gems, the in-game currency) that's still less per month than most mmo's if you space it out.

I'm actually fine with the 5 char slots. I don't have much interest in seriously playing the other professions at this time.

Actually, couldn't you just farm gold, buy gems, and get extra char slots that way? I was under the impression you could just work for it in-game rather than spending real-life money.

as a matter of fact yes you can farm gold and get gems and extra character slots in that manner. They are trying to make it so that people who are hesitant to spend money have a viable manner of getting the things they might desire xD or at least I think so bleh but darn I need to get a new lappy so I can play!!!!

Yes, that works too. Still doesn't mean they don't want your $$$ icon_razz.gif

It's cuz the magic characters looked too fem, and straight guys are too afraid to play them despite wanting to. In many games, magic classes look frail, girly or stupid.
Guess which classes are more into magic:

I'm getting excited for GW2! I'm 90% sure I'll start when it begins, and I haven't played an MMO when it's new. And I'll probably do nothing else with my free time for weeks.

Is it disappointing in terms of gameplay? Slow walk speed, expensive teleports, small inventory space that you have to pay $30 to fix? I need to know! I know it's in beta but there are 9 days until it begins for preorders.

I played GW1, about 25% through. It was very late though, it felt like everyone was at endgame when I started. Now it's very boring and feels limited.

Currently playing City of Heroes free until GW2 comes out.

How is the crafting system? In GW1, it was pretty lame. FFXIV had a ridiculously in-depth crafting system. A little too much for me.

I'll join whatever guild you guys are, but I'm pretty independent. I solo a fair bit, and take my time using good strategy and efficiency. WHen I play with others, they rush through the story, fuck up plans, and I end up not getting the rewards I aimed for. I usually stick to one character, doing buffs/debuffs and a little damage.

It's not disappointing at all in terms of gameplay in my opinion. Teleports cost next to nothing, movement speed is fixed at a reasonable rate, inventory can be expanded with containers (which nearly every crafting discipline can make), and the crafting system is indepth and rewarding since it also gives you experience. You'll definitely enjoy the game whether soloing or grouping. It seems like Crystal Desert's going to be the server of choice for some fellow RJers
