I chose Verizon when I first started four years ago, because everyone said they had the best signal strength/quality. I am now finally out-of-contract and can switch companies. Very old-school, I do not text or sent photos or surf the internet. I use my phone to talk but $60 for 900 minutes is too much money for too many minutes.

What companies have good service and are cheap? Any recommendations? A friend uses prepaid for $2/day but we talk every day so I'm back at square one.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I think prepaid is the way to go for people that only need voice minutes. There are so many prepaid providers now, it's a buyer's market.

I'm on ATT's prepaid plan and pay $25 a month for 250 minutes and unlimited text. Other prepaid providers offer similar plans.

Just switched to StraightTalk. $45 a month for unlimited everything .... but than again, I'm on of those smart phone people. I do believe they have smaller plans and prepaid plans. StraightTalk uses the AT&T network as well.

    Virgin Mobile

    $35 - unlimited data + 300 min
    $45 - unlimited data + 1200 min
    $55 - unlimited

No contract, there are cheap $50 phones if all you care about is calling.

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidT-Mobile has a month to month plan where you only pay $30 for 1500 minutes.
This is the plan that I use. I think it's the lowest plan they have.

I'm on the same plan. It's actually 1500 minutes/texts (each text is equivalent to one minute) and 30 mb of data. Voicemail & Caller ID is included.

I'm on Straight Talk for $47.50/mo (including taxes)...unlimited everything, and no contract.

And, I've traveled from coast to coast without losing signal.
